What a fraudulent crock! Glaciers “calve” all the time, and dollars to dogturds, this wasn’t the largest example of a glacier calving, by a long shot. More glo-bull warming (B)arbara (S)treisand!

Just because the boat got too close, and the dweeb holding the camera lost his balance when the boat rocked a little bit....THAT....is supposed to make everyone swoon and panic and sell their SUV.

Balderdash! and Poppycock! And a goodly amount of Hogwash thrown in for good measure!

Are you profiling again????

You know damn well a Tea Party fundamentalist-Christian ultra-Conservative rabid-gun-owner and non-bathing extremist blog participant that pushes lower spending and reduced taxes is involved here. /s

Wait a few hours. The MSM will confirm this without evidence. Unexpectedly...

They removed what was originally reported as a pipe bomb and ruled the explosive device inert.

What does that mean? It was always inert or they disarmed it.

If it was always inert it could be someone trying to demonstrate how vulnerable we are.

It means somebody was possibly testing to find out if anybody would notice a “bomb”. A dry run ..??

Something similar to the woman who tried to carry a “bomb” on board an airplane.

What bothers me about this .. there seems to be way too many of these happenings lately .. and we know for a fact that the 9/11 hijackers did many, many dry runs.

And we know OBL was plotting attacks for 9/11, this year being the 10th anniversary. Just because he's dead doesn't mean the plans have ground to a halt.

"Federal investigators said the device was rendered safe and that the area was checked for additional devices. No other devices were found. The device was described as a one-inch-by-one-inch pipe bomb."

I was reading another article and came across the 1"x1" pipe bomb and had to chuckle, I've had firecrackers bigger than that.

Seasonally, though, the numbers are STILL very low for automotive manufacturing jobs, however, I do see your point about Service Sector jobs:

Employment activity in the non-manufacturing sector grew in July, as ISM's Non-Manufacturing Employment Index registered 52.5 percent. This reflects a decrease of 1.6 percentage points when compared to the 54.1 percent registered in June. Nine industries reported increased employment, one industry reported decreased employment, and eight industries reported unchanged employment compared to June. Comments from respondents include "Filling some vacancies on a case-by-case basis" and "Slightly lower due to end of assignments/jobs."

The industries reporting an increase in employment in July — listed in order — are: Real Estate, Rental & Leasing; Mining; Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing & Hunting; Transportation & Warehousing; Wholesale Trade; Retail Trade; Finance & Insurance; Public Administration; and Accommodation & Food Services. The only industry reporting a reduction in employment in July is Professional, Scientific & Technical Services.

To my mind, this does NOT call for QE3 and the inflationary pressures this act will cause, even though the trends over the last few weeks show deflationary tendencies.

Well stated, but my point is that Matrix metalloproteinases are up-regulated in many diseases, including osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

I'm reporting on a novel technique that can be used to simultaneously measure activity levels for a panel of enzymes, such as the MMPs. The technique, termed the multiple-enzyme/multiple-reagent assay system (MEMRAS), relies on the use of reagents such as substrates with varying selectivity profiles against a group of enzymes. When reaction rates are measured by following a change in fluorescence with time, for mixtures of enzymes, an equation with unknown concentrations for each activity is generated for each reagent used. Simultaneously solving the set of equations leads to a solution for the unknown concentrations.

I have applied this mathematical technique to measure activity levels for mixtures of MMPs such as collagenase 3 and gelatinase A. In addition, because I was most interested in determining collagenase 3 levels as a potential biological marker for OA, I developed highly selective substrates for this enzyme by using results found in previous bacteriophage substrate-mapping experiments. Some of the best substrates tested have specific activities for collagenase 3 that are 37 000-, 17 000-, 90-, and 200-fold selective over stromelysin 1, collagenase 1, and gelatinases A and B, respectively.

Determination of kcat/Km for Dinitrophenyl (Dnp) Peptide Substrates. The Dnp substrates listed in Tables 1 and 2 were prepared and assayed as described below. Briefly, a dimethyl sulfoxide stock of 5 mM peptide was diluted in assay buffer so that the substrate concentration was 25 íM in a 200-íL volume. In the case of substrate 35, solubility proved to be a problem. Therefore, the substrate concentration was reduced to 5-10 íM. The assay buffer contained 50 mM Tris, pH 7.5; 200 mM NaCl; 5 mM CaCl2; 10 íM ZnCl2; and 0.01% Brij 35. After addition of enzyme (0.05, 0.17, 0.17, 10, and 17 nM final concentrations for collagenase 3, gelatinase A, gelatinase B, collagenase 1, and stromelysin 1, respectively), time points were taken at 10 min, 30 min, 1 h, and 2 h when a 50-íL aliquot was removed and quenched with 50 íL of 1% heptafluorobutyric acid (HFBA).

The Obama administration’s chief dogwasher Jay Carney must have had a burr under his saddle during yesterday’s White House press briefing. You see, among one of Obama’s stale, rehashed, and unimaginative ideas to save our economy is to extend unemployment insurance.

This is right up there with his idea to reform patent laws. The junta claims that extending unemployment insurance will create a million jobs. Considering this claim, yesterday a reporter from the Wall Street Journal asks Jay Carney the following question: “I understand why extending unemployment insurance provides relief to people who need it, but how does that create jobs?”
