Many commentators are on a mission to contextualise the riots that have swept parts of urban London and other British cities. Its very naive to look at these riots without the context, says one journalist, who says the reason the violence kicked off in the London suburb of Tottenham is because that area is getting 75% cuts [in public services]. Others have said that the political context for the rioting is youth unemployment or working-class anger at David Camerons cuts agenda. There is a context to Londons riots that cant be ignored, said a writer for the Guardian, and it is the backdrop of brutal cuts and enforced austerity measures. The mass unrest is a protest against unhinged capitalism, apparently.

Just for a second the author brushes up against his and his fellow left wingers' profound responsibility for the development of this situation; then without even a glimmer of remorse, exonerates himself completely by proclaiming that he doesn't "celebrate nihilistic behaviour."
It's this kind of mental and moral cognitive dissonance that's necessary to survive as a thoroughly modern Liberal.
This is why socialism is so dangerous as it both addictive and unsustainable.
Maybe time for a parody of the old Kenny Rogers-First Edition tune: “Something’s Burning...and I think it’s London”
It’s not only a matter of marxism (Eastern block countries never experienced these type of revolts) but more a matter of too many feral people.
The totally groundless pride in our multicultaralism and diversity will do us in.
Just remember that the “greatest generation” was made up of members of but a few differing cultural backgrounds.
It was the “greatest generation” that kept electing the Democrats during the last century. Not so great.
Yeah, twenty-year olds flying B-17s over Germany and storming Omaha Beach and Iwo are not always as politically astute as we want them to be.
But they had more love for their country in their little pinky than many of our exhorbitantly paid congresscritters display.
