Perry's 2012 GOP entry could overshadow Iowa poll

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Texas Gov. Rick Perry's jump into the Republican presidential race Saturday promises to jolt the crowded field and threatens to cast a shadow all the way back to the Midwest, site of an important early test of his rivals' strength.

His announcement was set for 1 p.m. EDT at a meeting of conservative activists in South Carolina, only a few hours before the release of results from a straw poll in Iowa, the nation's first caucus state. Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota are hoping for a boost.

Perry's advisers said this week he would use his appearance at the RedState Gathering to make his plans official. But his first speech as a candidate was certain to draw attention from the Republicans competing in the Midwest.

People can bad mouth him all they want, but he has overshadowed all of the contenders before he even entered the race.

I call that a good start

Well... they are both clean, articulate and have no negro dialect.

Other than that, no. Not so much.

I must say Perry will be fun to watch. Even if he ultimately disappoints us, he will force the others in the race to have a spine or get out.
I like what he says. I like that the Libturds of Austin have never been able to find the right formula to destroy him. I really like that he makes the media squirm, particularly FOX and their fake fawning coverage of Romney. I am waiting to see how much is politician and how much is statesman. The squawk of the angry RINO’s will tell us if he is the real thing.

Perry, shown here with Lewis in the background, was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1984. He came to be known as one of the "Pit Bulls," members who sat in the lower pit of the House Appropriations Committee and bitterly fought spending increases. - PHOTO: The Texas Tribune/Courtesy of Texas State Library and Archives Commission

Both of them had algore as a friend, both supported global warming , they both have the same ability with a teleprompter, both have the same stellar athletic abilities, I am sure Obummer would have made a fine cheerleader. Heck they probably both have hats and no cattle.

Beg pardon, but the Iowa straw poll has never predicted anything and has never been relevant other than a news story in the slow month of August.

Just two shy of your record, I'm told.

We've still got cars sinking into the asphalt down here.

Yee haw, bush run number three, are is that Obummer in white face.

That is the kind of thinking that got us McCain v Obama in 2008. Wouldn't a third Bush term be better than what we are living through right now or are you someone who b!thces about every candidate that comes along? If Perry is so terrible, who do you recommend?

The MSM will do all they can for Perry and Romney. Just like they went all out for McCain until he was nominated.

Hopefully the two will split the establishment vote and knock each other out of the race so we can have a conservative nominee.
