Okay, so minimum wage jobs are primarily service sector... that means they need to fill them because they have so many people with non-service sector jobs that are paying customers. I guess employment is stable in Texas.
Could I get a link to that?
No, minimum wage jobs do not help with teen employment. Rather the MW just kills teen employment because a restaurant or other business only has so much operating margin to pay employees. Elimination of the MW would result in an explosion of jobs for teens. The main goal for teens is to learn how to work, not to make over a certain amount.
Businesses could hire twice as many teens, and with the report this week about the dreadful teen unemployment rates across the states, this would be fantastic for the country.
“Already the MSM is cranking up the Perrys record isnt THAT great meme.”
You should see the “piece” in the Guardian!

Well if things in Texas are so great then the rest of the country must really suck!
I saw through Ace of Spaces HQ this morning that some on the Left are trying to make a big deal about photos of Perry in uniform carrying a cadet sabre while he was in the Cadet Corp at Texas A&M.
Not to be too glib but there are several alternatives. Find a better job. Create your own job/business. Go where conditions are better. Or don't take a job you think is unworthy or beneath you. Starve. Die.
Whatever one does, they should start it with a basic premise: "I (in the editorial sense) don't owe you anything". The world can be a wonderful place or it can be a miserable sumbitch. It's what you choose to make of it.
bump.
Never mind, I got it...Thanks.
A thousand people a day are moving to Texas...I don't think they were all CEOs of Fortune 500 corporations where they came from!
Most were probably minimum wage where they came from...and lost that!
Obama has cost TX a LOT of jobs. Off shore drilling was stopped...and paid well. At NASA, engineering jobs were lost.
Obama is out to get TX because we don't want him and his flippin government programs.
I can't stand the sight or sound of Barack Obama!
Agreed. My comment was related to the article's essential complaint that the created jobs don't pay enough. I am not a supporter of the minimum wage for the reasons that you stated, as well as the general idea that the government should stop attempting to control the operations of the country's businesses.
Yeah, it’s much better to be unemployed getting that extended unemployment check from taxpayers, than to take a lowly job. We have our pride, after all.
Guess it is true, loads of people are looking for employment, but not many are looking to work.
What they don't address is the cost of living in Texas. Outside of the major cities, folks can get by on minimum wage. A single mom making $10 an hour can keep a roof over her head (not a McMansion, but a roof) and still provide.
And yes, the $50K jobs are still out there in Texas. I host a job bank for my industry, and we had several new posts this month after a quiet period.
You are correct, though, Rational Thought. A friend of mine sent out over 700 resumes looking for work, and eventually took a job making $12 an hour. From over $100K, with over 25 years experience in the field, to $12 an hour - in New York. Thankfully, his wife is in the medical field and earns a good salary, so they are hanging on - albiet with a radically different lifestyle.
Not perfect, but just short of compared to the unmitigated disaster that is Bambi.
And the minimum wage jobs wouldn't exist if they weren't supporting higher wage earners.
In Texas, which has a lot of new immigrants from south of the border who don’t have the skill set to work in much more than a minimum wage job, one should expect that Texas would have a lot of minimum wage workers. First generation unskilled laborers can’t expect top wage jobs until they increase their skills. Most minimum wage workers don’t stay at minimum wage for too long, unless they are a lousy worker. They rise up the pay scale and with training become more skilled. This is not a zero sum game.
Yes, it is reported at 9.1 percent unemployed, same as the rest of the country, probably about 18 percent if you count those dropped from the rolls.
