Point taken. But to many, what is the alternative?
Not to be too glib but there are several alternatives. Find a better job. Create your own job/business. Go where conditions are better. Or don't take a job you think is unworthy or beneath you. Starve. Die.
Whatever one does, they should start it with a basic premise: "I (in the editorial sense) don't owe you anything". The world can be a wonderful place or it can be a miserable sumbitch. It's what you choose to make of it.
