I confess that I'm having great fun watching the liberals waking up to the fact that the image of President Obama they bought into was a fantasy, and underneath is an arrogant, cold, and incompetent executive, with no experience at all in running anything.
This morning brings Colbert King, the liberal Washington Post columnist, who take his first step down the path to a reality-based perception of The One. King displays a certain annoyance with Barack Obama, explaining to the president why it is so stupid for him to be going on vacation:
King goes on to list many other facilities and luxuries available to the president and his family. What's fascinating here is the indirect allusion to the parties, the hobnobbing with stars and athletes, the exuberant exploitation of their supreme position in the American status hierarchy. The Obamas take such pleasure in using to the utmost, all of the privileges and facilities made available to live large. The sheer number of parties they throw is astounding, though almost unmentioned in the liberal media, so far.
This is not the way a president should be spending his time. Not when, for the first time in U.S. history, the country's credit rating has been downgraded; when so many families are barely scraping by, many not knowing where the next mortgage or rent payment is coming from.
It is by now obvious to King and many others, that President Obama spends an awful lot of time in leisure activities and just isn't very good at running things. He is implying that things are going to hell because Obama is lazy, not spending enough time at it.
None of this is explicitly mentioned, of course. But the foreknowledge is out there for both King and his readers.

Chris referenced CBS Mark Knoller's facts that W vacationed 198 days, while Obie has only vacationed 67 days.(approx. #'s iirc) The impression was that GWB spent much more time on vacation that Obie. That's the GWB who put his clubs away during the war.
Personally, I don't remember GWB taking a "vacation" EVER. Camp David, and his Crawford ranch often, yes, which are basically remote White Houses.
I also suspect that they're comparing W's 8 years vs. Obie's 3 yrs. At least we can take comfort that no one watches the show. They only raised the subject, imho, to blunt coming criticism.

What I take from that is that King doubts that Obama has come up with any plans or can do anything, as he has been incompetent so far. And the "not you...who's being taken" seems to me like he is telling Obama - enough with the excuses, pay attention to the problems, you own them now. And stop finger pointing, blaming everyone else, and asking others to do your job!
The Progs wanted a DICK-Tater. They didn’t get one. He tries to be one (skirting Congressional approval and doing things ‘under the table’ while Congress is on recess). They expected him to get all ‘ghetto’. Their fantasy that they projected on this empty suit didn’t come to fruition.
Progs need a ‘daddy’ figure, since they either didn’t grow up with a real one or reject the one they had.
W’s vacations, while snarked at by the MSM, were very low key affairs.
Baraq & MooseChelle appear to go out of their way to flaunt their high living - letting us serfs know our tax dollars are being well spent on the royalty.
I think it’s beginning to grate even on some of the Dems.
Yet King will be first in line to re anoint O’SpendsALot in the next election cycle. The fruit does not rot far from the tree.

You are absolutely correct. The Crawford ranch was so fully equipped as GW's office that the SS referred to it as the "Texas White House." Bush worked when he "vacationed" there. He invited political leaders, foreign heads of state to meetings, and conferred with his staffers and advisers whom he also hosted there while they worked in a more secluded, yet productive atmosphere away from the distractions of DC. The best asset of Bush's ranch during those times was the level of relaxed, gracious, sincere hospitality all those people enjoyed. Something Obama has never shown to dignataries.
And I am sure it all cost less than the Obama's vacations, or Michelle's so-called "official" visit to Africa where she played she was "working" for what...a day...during that expensive charade on our dime.
Clearly it is.

I’d love to see an official state dinner where bacon or some kind of pork product is served in every menu item.
Watch him stammer and stutter and hesitate and then say something about how his doctor told him to start eating healthier so he can’t have the pork.

King's just another liberal who's thinks Obama's being taken to the cleaners by conservatives in Congress. King's solution to Obama's problems is for Obama to spend more time politicking, trying to pass left-wing initiatives. No thanks. The one thing I learned from my college years is that there is no politician in elected office who is more left-wing than any random journalist. The unhinged radicalism of the average journalist is why so few ever make it into elected office, and not for lack of trying.
No...he’s paying 50,000 a WEEK....still an obnoxious sum, but I doubt that HE is really paying. He makes $400,000 a year so he;s spending 1/8 on a vacation??
