Australia carbon tax protest targets Julia Gillard
BBC ^ | 2011 August 15 | Nick Bryant

Thousands of people have gathered in the Australian capital, Canberra, to protest against a planned carbon tax aimed at curbing greenhouse emissions.

It is the centrepiece of Prime Minister Julia Gillard's environmental strategy, despite her ruling out its introduction during last year's election campaign.

A year on from that pledge conservative opponents, who opposed the measure, are calling for a new election.

They say the tax will drive up household bills and costs jobs.

No issue in Australian politics is generating more passion right now than climate change.

The proposed carbon tax is to penalise 500 of the country's heavy polluters.

Notice how the BBC characterizes industries as “500 of the heaviest polluters”, buying the leftist’s lie that carbon dioxide is a “pollutant.” Carbon dioxide has never been a “pollutant” in all of history until Obama, Gore, and their marxist/eco-leftists decided to make it so.

You could make farting a crime because it produces various gases. You would have to arrest every cow and horse because they blow out methane.

This is how psychopathic the Environmental Left is in their thinking (all about absolute stalinist control over every aspect of your life). Gillard is going to get kicked in the crotch over this one and may be on her way out.

Why they elected a known marxist to head a democracy is beyond me, but, then again, our “best and brightest” did the same thing here in America.

I hope both countries regain their sanity in time to prevent a complete marxist takeover.

The people are going to have to rise up. Governments all over the world are totally out of control.

The conservative opposition has promised to ditch the tax, arguing it will have only a small impact on overall global emissions.

Well I am sure that emissions is the last thing that Julia Gillard cares about as far as the carbon tax is concerned.

What the socialist care about is the revenue that tax will bring the government and punishing industry.

One gets the sense that she's Australia's Jennifer Granholm. Even conceptually, the entire carbon trading/taxation scheme is really perplexing - it's tantamount to bailing out your side of the bucket, while China, India, etc., fills up theirs.

I miss Howard!

Don’t these people watch Televisions? Why are they unaware the ONLY the richest coporations will be paying the tax, and ordinary people will be getting half of it as free money from the goverment. (The other half will be going to establish wildlife sanctuaries for unicorns or something.)

Oh G_d no... Does she also need a rat to naw off the mole on her face? ( Hey some comedian said that not me )...

Seriously Granholm was a disaster, I do not wish that on anyone, the question begs "who benefits", is she looking for some AU bank or brokerage firm to make a killing of off Carbon Credits? This is so odd given they export so much coal, or is she trying to make a play for the Natural Gas Industry they have....
