Karl Rove Slams Perry For Fed "Treason" Comments
Slate ^ | August 16, 2011 | Josh Voorhees

Rick Perry's "treason" comments are drawing sharp criticism from a wide range of political observers and talking heads, among them Karl Rove.

"You don't accuse the chairman of the Federal Reserve of being a traitor to his country. Of being guilty of treason," Rove, who has clashed with Perry before, told Fox News (via TPM). "And, suggesting that we treat him pretty ugly in Texas — You know, that is not, again a presidential statement."

Rove continued: "If Rick Perry were to be elected president he'd be saddled with Ben Bernanke who has a term. He's an independent chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, appointed by president and confirmed by Congress and serves for a term and the president couldn't even ask him to resign. So, this is — I hope this is not the first of sort of over the top statements."

Politico has a roundup of reactions from some other prominent George W. Bush allies, none of whom had nice things to say about Perry's comments.

The actual quote involved printing money for political purposes.

Such a thing would be unheard of!

Needs to be said again:

Bernanke lied to Congress.

He promised the Federal Reserve would not monetize the debt of the U.S. government.

If Toyko Rove doesn’t like Perry the Perry must be doing something right!

The Rove/Bush/Clinton/Obama/Dood/Frank//JP Morgan/Goldman Sachs/Bank of America/Citigroup ruling party has been heard from. But if there is even the slightest chance Perry belongs to a different party, he’ll never even get the nomination.

Rove hates Perry. So do the Bushes. They all went out for the RINO Kay Bailey Hutchinson.

Isn't intentionally debasing the money supply a form of treason? It sure seems that way to me. And by the way my constitution says the only money shall be gold and silver. One of Sir Issac Newton's chief posts in the French court of the time was to measure the weight of the Kings coins to be sure they were not “shaved”. People found guilty of such debasement were regularly executed. Oh yeah, fuck you Karl Rove.

Mr. Rove is jeopardizing the “magnificent” adjective.

I dropped the "magnificent" from the "magnificent bastard" long ago.

No, Perry DID NOT call Barnanke a traitor or accuse him of treason. Anyway, I’m glad Perry is bringing this to the nation’s attention. Maybe now the Fed will stop the printing press, and when massive inflation occurs, voters will know who to blame.

The Bushes, the Bush machine led by Karl Rove, and the Rino eastern seaboard, regularly hosted by Hannity on FOX, will be no friend to Rick Perry, until help freezes. Count on it.

Sit down and shut up Tokyo Rove. You have all ready cost us 2 Senate seats in 2010, don't compound your error in 2012.

The Bush family’s roots are in New England. W’s grandfather, Prescott Bush was a senator from Connecticut. The whole darn bunch are products of Ivy League schools. Although both W and his father live in Texas, their hearts are in New England—Romney’s home—not Texas.

See my post #45 for an exact quote of what Perry said. If his opponents want to twist and misquote what he said, then it reflects more on them than him. I am not a big Perry fan, but I don't see any reason to criticize him over this remarks nor do I consider it a gaffe.

There are over 300 sponsors in Congress for a bill to audit the Fed. Both parties want more transparency and accountability for the Fed, which is currently operating outside of any effective oversight. The power of these unelected, unaccountable members of this quasi-governmental organization is breathtaking. I suspect the majority of the American people feel the same way.

Perry's remarks were politically astute. He will be helped more than hurt by them.

Bernanke is too smart and too accomplished to be an idiot. That make him a traitor.
