'Suspected terrorist' if you do, devoured by zombies if you don't?
St Louis Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 15 August, 2011 | Kurt Hoffmann

Posted on 08/17/2011 6:27:12 AM PDT by marktwain

Last Thursday, National Gun Rights Examiner David Codrea noted a report from the Oathkeepers that the Denver office of the FBI wants surplus store owners to snitch on purchasers of certain survival gear. (Very) briefly summarized, the FBI wants to know about people who purchase "in bulk" things like Meals, Ready to Eat (MREs), waterproof containers for ammunition or matches, shooting accessories, etc., especially if the purchaser insists on paying in cash (you know--legal tender). Yesterday, Seattle Gun Rights Examiner Dave Workman reported that this effort on the federal government's part is both more widespread and longer established than was initially apparent.

Strangely, though, at least two branches of the federal government advise citizens to have some of these things on hand, in case of a broad range of emergencies. As the Days of Our Trailers blog noted yesterday:

I know that I only buy MREs to eat on the way home from the Army surplus store.

The LATimes used to run articles on earthquake preparedness, things like have a 3 day supply of food and water. Every now and then they’d run an article about how the police busted some “survivalist” with a three day supply of food and water, and a handgun with “hundreds of rounds” of ammo (three boxes)in his “arsenal”.

Seems to me there was some activity a while back, US Gov was buying a million cases of freeze-dried food?

Wouldn’t this brand all good Mormons as “preppers” or terrorists based on having a year’s supply of food put by?

Put ads in all the Craigslists across the country saying “Hot wealthy nympho seeks young
studs who appreciate a generous woman” and give the FBI tip line as a contact.

Sounds like racial profiling to me.

The seller claimed that was a myth. The huge sales were just huge demand by preppers.

I’m ready, but I’m sure my neighbors are not. (I live in a 12-unit apartment complex with lots of academic types from China and single mothers.) Which means I need to either buy more stuff to share with them after St. Louis is leveled by an earthquake or be prepared to go mad dog on ‘em when they come begging. How could one go mad dog on a mother begging for food for her kid? I’ve been contemplating sending everyone a flier, encouraging them to lay in a store of provisions ‘just in case.’ I think I’ll do that this weekend.

Okay... I am confused (must need more coffee). Is it illegal to purchase and store a lot of food, matches, MRE’s etc? A person puts up 40 quarts of tomatoes... is that a warning indicator? This is stupid.

“I’ve been contemplating sending everyone a flier, encouraging them to lay in a store of provisions”

Oh, I wouldn’t do that. Most of them won’t put away anything even if they have the money on hand to do so. Some of them may wish to, but don’t have anything to spare. But after you hand out the flyer, ALL of them will know that you are prepared. That puts you at grave risk.

The only people you can reliably warn are family members and relatives, and sometimes close relatives only. Anyone else could become a liability if things go south.

It’s best that you prepare as much as possible and get ready to hunker down. Since you’re in an apartment you will need some other people/family members to take turns keeping watch at night. Your vehicle will not be safe in a shared parking lot if disorder breaks out.

The mad world we live in...

It would, by their definition. But, by this adminstration’s definitions, we are also supposed to concentrate on the actions of former members of the military, but not on the actions of the New Black Panthers.

Credibiliity gap.
