President Barack Obama ditched the Beltway grind yesterday to seek the pleasures of summer on the beaches of Martha's Vineyard - by way of two helicopter flights and a trip aboard Air Force One. And a further government jet was used by Michelle Obama as she arrived separately to her husband, with daughters Sasha and Malia, just a few hours before he landed.
The President left the White House aboard Marine One on his way to Andrews Air Force base to hitch a lift aboard Air Force One.
After landing at an unknown air base, he then took a final helicopter to Martha's Vineyard to complete the remarkable 500-mile journey. The President arrived on this wealthy Massachusetts island retreat as the stock market plunged and fears of global recession hung in the air.
Mr Obama joined the First Lady and their daughters who had landed at about 2pm, four hours before his helicopter touched down. The extra transport will have cost taxpayers thousands in additional expenses to get her a few hours of extra vacation time.
The costs related to Mrs Obama’s solo trip mainly include the flight on the specially designed military aircraft she took instead of Air Force One, as well as any extra staff and Secret Service that had to be enlisted to go with her.
She would also have had her own motorcade from the airport to her vacation residence.....

It's all about conspicuous consumption and flaunting what you got.
Air Force one is all about flaunting power and position.
The Gulf Stream Biz Jet is all about wealth and Hollywood/Rock Star cool. It's plane of choice for those beautiful who have arrived in a big way.
Michelle takes the GIV when she wants to get in touch with her inner Diva and when she goes to frolic with the upscale, elite and trendy people she wants to impress and upstage in the Vineyard.
There certainly are a lot of remarkable things about this administration.

The United State Air Force has become the Obama Air Transport.
People are complaining about the two helicopter trips, but I believe before Obama could take that second Helicopter the Air Force had to fly it up there in another plane.
Costs mean nothing to Obama as he vacations on our dime.
Oh: He paid the $50 grand for the place all right, but that was the cheapest part of this vacation.
Since they are so close , maybe Aunt Zuni can stop over and get 50 Grand to pay for her stay here in this country.

I thought they had a smaller AF-1 for airfields where 747s are not able to land.
