Reagan's margin over Carter in Massachusetts was less than 4,000 votes. Anderson polled 382,539 votes. In fact, the combined vote total of DeBerry (Socialist Workers) and Commoner (Citizens Party) was more than Reagan's plurality over Carter.

But in 1984 Reagan carried Massachusetts by more than 70,000 votes over Mondale.
