The problem is someone can have a perfect ACU score and still be a notorious betrayer to conservative causes. Clearly, the scoring system (not just for the ACU but for all issue-oriented causes) is deeply flawed, and an insufficient basis for a voter's decision-making.

People like Hatch are masters at the kind of manipulations of legislation that allow him to simultaneously improve his ACU score while betraying conservatives. They are several steps ahead in this game, skills gained after decades in office.

As a general rule, if someone's been in political office longer than a dozen years, they are extremely likely to be part of the problem, not the solution.

Personally I want Hatch to stick around just long enough to usher a couple of Sarah Palin’s Supreme Court nominees through the Senate.

Then he can retire a conservative hero.

He ain’t perfect, but he’s an expert in the one thing we will need in 2013.
