The Rage on the Left Is Just Beginning
By Juan Williams

If you are a right-winger who does not like President Obama and calls his policies “socialist,” you’ve got to hear what is going on among America’s left-wingers.

In fact, you can even read it for yourself in The New York Times. Left-wing columnist Maureen Dowd has written several columns dripping with contempt for Obama since he struck a deal with Republicans to cut spending but chose not to increase taxes in order to lower our nation's debt.

And Paul Krugman the Nobel Prize-winning economist has long complained in his New York Times columns that the president displayed weakness by not insisting on a larger stimulus package – even as the right wing has condemned the stimulus as a waste of money and a failure for not lowering the unemployment rate.

And now Professor Drew Westen, in an essay in the New York Times magazines, writes that the Democrat in the White House is failing to respond to right-wing bullying instigated by the rich who have created the “greatest levels of economic inequality and the there greatest levels of corporate influence on politics since the Depression…”

The anger coming at President Obama from the left is being fueled by polls that show most Americans, and even the majority of Republicans, think the president should have insisted on having the rich pay more taxes as part of any deal on raising the debt ceiling.

So, what are the lefties going to do, abandon der leader and go with what? Dig up Mao. I don’t think so.

This is nothing more than a sermon on why we need to raise taxes on the high earners which by the time they note it is inconsequential to raise taxes on just those making 200K, it will be lowered. Since most families making 50K or less pay no income taxes, it will be a general tax raise.

The entire income tax last year brought in something like 900 billion last year...that is LESS than the deficit alone. Say they double it, what does that do, bring in about what the deficit was assuming anyone pays it?

The liberal jokers don’t care to realize the only way this budget gets balanced is to cut out all the socialist crap from the budget period.

The scary thing is that the left is down on Dick Obama because they think he isn’t nearly as left as they want. That’s how far gone they are.

rich pay more taxes = more poor and unemployment

True, and this is why: the rich smartly and carefully invest their wealth, which indirectly benefits all. The government beast destroys wealth. The more we take from the rich to feed the beast the poorer we become.

From the article:
Consider that the wealthiest 400 Americans have more money than the bottom 150 million combined and the rich are still paying the lowest tax rates since the 1950s.
I'm amazed at how many times I see a lie like this repeated.

In 1988, the top marginal rate was 28%. In 1990, after "Read my lips" Bush 1 renegged on that promis, the top marginal rate was 31%. Today, the rate is 35%.

Obviously, 1988 through 1992 were "in the 1950's" according th the Dem/Socialist history books.

“infatuation one sees with communism..”

Ultimately its an infatuation with their own egos...and the failings and weaknesses therein are projected upon the rest of us. Liberalism truly is a mental illness.

Warren Harding figured it out in 1920...

Congress and the Executive Branch have lots to do.

So far they’re not doin’ it right..

Its been done before..

Harding cut the government’s budget nearly in half between 1920 and 1922. The rest of Harding’s approach was equally laissez-faire. Tax rates were slashed for all income groups. The national debt was reduced by one-third. The Federal Reserve’s activity, moreover, was hardly noticeable. As one economic historian puts it, “Despite the severity of the contraction, the Fed did not move to use its powers to turn the money supply around and fight the contraction.” 2 By the late summer of 1921, signs of recovery were already visible. The following year, unemployment was back down to 6.7 percent and was only 2.4 percent by 1923.

http://www.firstprinciplesjournal.com/articles.aspx?article=1319&loc=r

BTW..ole Warren ALSO fixed immigration...

Mr. Harding signed into law the Emergency Quota Act[3] which sought to control immigration following World War I and preserve the distinctive American culture by ensuring the majority of immigrants came from the historically compatible cultures of Northern Europe. This law aimed to bring wages of hard working Americans under control by limiting immigration to 3% of the 1910 census. It was followed on by a similar act in 1924, after Mr. Harding’s death.[4]

A Warren Harding prescription...if filled ...would ignite the afterburners on the US job machine and the economy. However DC would have to yield on a tremendous amount of power. Our job as We the People...is to persuade them of the “utility” ..shall we say..of doing so. In all probability the same minds that made the mess...aren’t capable of the solution however.

BTW any takers that ‘Bammy couldn’t even tell you that Warren Harding was one of his predecessors in office?

Even more telling about what our betters in the RinoCracy think of a Constitutional President..

I am sure Obama would like to accommodate those to the left of him but the majority of this country in the center and right will not let him. What amazes me is that there are actually people on this planet that stand in the little space to the left of Obama and they have managed not to fall of the planet.Too bad.

I see this as a campaign strategy to try and make Obama look more moderate.

You see, if the left thinks he isn’t socialist enough, then that must mean he is too moderate.

What a joke.

A couple of observations here:

1. Dame Thatcher is right - Socialism always fails because it runs out of other people's money.

2. There are no mistakes, aka loop holes, in the tax codes they were placed there by various Congress critters in exchange for continued campaign contributions. This alone justifies abandoning the current tax code and trying the “fair tax” approach.

3. We have spent how many trillions trying to “win the war on poverty”? Guess what, our poor are now among the richest poor in the world and we are still fighting, and losing, “the war on poverty”! After almost 50 years of failure (makes this America's longest “war”) can we surrender and stop the legalized theft of our Social Security funds?

4. Since when is it the federal Government’s job to take money from one person and give it to another because of “wealth inequality”? Level the playing field - YES. But steal from Peter to give it to Paul because Peter has more - NO! The problem will be is who decides - certainly not Peter.

5. If someone thinks they, individually or as a class, aren't paying enough taxes they can always send in more money to the government of their choice. I think there is some kind of Federal Form you can use to do this. But, the money collected via this method isn't enough to attract the attention of the “professional politicians”. So, all you rich people out there go to your tax lawyer and tax accountant and direct your employees to accomplish this simple act and truly give more money to the government.

Sorry Juan Williams this effort fails on a lot of points - I expected better of you because you normally do better.

Of course, I’m confidant it’s going to break our way as all true red blooded patriotic Americans are hardworking, capitalism loving individualists and loathe socialism/communism/Marxism.

When you consider how difficult it is to gather enough backing from just FReepers to keep this site up, why would you believe that our ideas are backed by a majority of the nation?

I had a discussion with my leftist (but they don't know it) brother and sister over this. They just don't comprehend the scale of overspending versus tax revenue. Taxing the rich MORE will do nothing. It's like a drop of the water in an ocean. Yet this is the only thing they could focus on. Tax the rich 100% I told them, and it will run the government for 30 days. It won't do nothing to pay down the debt and it will be the last time it happens. Just fell on deaf ears. The focus is on sticking it to someone else.

Because the nation now sees how corrupt and bankrupting all out Marxism truly is. Obama is rekindling the desire for fiscal responsibility and constitutionally limited government. Witness the TEA party.
