Memo to Warren Buffett: If you want to pay more taxes, there's a PO Box where you can send a check.

Warren Buffett, the billionaire head of Berkshire Hathaway and third richest person in the world, has called repeatedly for increasing taxes on wealthy Americans to help reduce the nation’s deficit.

So last week, GOP presidential hopeful Rep. Michele Bachmann called on Buffett to put his money where his mouth is.

“Mr. Buffett, write a big check today,” Bachmann said on the campaign trail. “There’s nothing you have to wait for.”

Bachmann is right: Donations to the federal government can be dropped in mailboxes and sent to a West Virginia post office box, or they can be submitted online at http://www.pay.gov.

This has got to be the loneliest, most cobweb-infested PO Box in the country. But at least Warren Buffett could put his money where his mouth is, even if he's the only one who can afford to donate to Uncle Sam in the Obama economy.

This is why I loathe Warren “Oh, Please Take More of My Money!” Buffett’s grandstanding crap. In order to make himself look oh-so-noble, he gives people the idea that if only we could get the money from those evil rich people, everything would be just fine. But of course, he knows this won’t happen, so he gets to have his money and say “Gee, it’s too bad I have so much of this!” Your hands work, Warren, open up that wallet.

One not paying attention might think that for a guy who’s supposedly so smart, Buffett doesn’t seem to grasp basic facts about capitalism. But that’s not true—he knows damn well what the facts are, and just doesn’t care, because it’s a free way to make himself look like one of the Good People, and those other rich folks are the meanies—while he has more money than just about anyone else.

Buffet only draws a “Salary” of $100k that he pays taxes on.

The rest of it, the Mansions, yacht, private jet, etc. are all paid for by his company, or his non-profit foundation.

They want to raise the income tax on the rich. The odd thing about that is the uber-rich get very little in the form of paychecks. Instead they get most of their money in capital gains not touched by income taxes.

It's good that Bachmann has told Buffett to put his money where his big mouth is. Virtually everybody except for Leftist morons see through his Socialist ruse of trying to shame other far less well off people who have invested their money into creating badly needed jobs to hand it over to the government instead while Buffett himself expects nothing but additional profit from it.

Bad show, Buffett - you are a transparently hypocritical socialist and a shameless greedhead.

“you are a transparently hypocritical socialist”

Not quite true.

More like a race-guilty white guy, ashamed at his wealth.

“Buffet only draws a “Salary” of $100k that he pays taxes on.”

Bingo! The super rich don't have to have standard incomes like the rest of us. They can make themselves impervious to income tax increases, and have many, many ways to hide capital gains.

Even if true, that in no way explains why he wants to boost taxes on others. But having a socialist bent, which I accuse him of, does.

And why does Buffett want to boost taxes on others? Obviously not to significantly reduce the deficit, but to starve the private sector and bulk up the Federal Government even more, both Socialist goals.

“And why does Buffet want to boost taxes on others? Obviously not to significantly reduce the deficit, but to starve the private sector and bulk up the Federal Government even more, both Socialist goals.”

Perhaps greed could be the reason. In his 2007 interview he stated that the best tax would be a consumption tax (not a sales tax though). Everyone would have all their money in an unlimited IRA. Only when it was withdrawn would it be taxed.

He also supports the death tax. His Insurance companies have estate planning services and Life Insurance FLP to help pay the death tax without being forced to liquidate the business.

I also challenge his statement, and believe he is playing loose with the facts. He is obviously ignoring the corporate taxes paid by his company which were more than 29% in 2010. Any dividends or capital gains distributions at 15% would bring the rate to 44%.

His salary in this year's proxy was 100,000 plus $75,000 for director fees. I haven't found info on pensions, deferred comp, stock options etc.

He also stated in that same interview that his employees had to pay 15% payroll tax, which is not correct. The employer pays half and the employee pays the other half.

He’ not opposed to raising the capital gains tax, because it encourages long-term investment rather than shorter term, which benefits his company's investment style.

He also fought very hard to make sure that stock options continued to be treated as a business expense to the corporation. I just wish someone would challenge him in an interview once in a while.

I do not believe he is anything other than a self - serving business man. And by the way he is making sure Uncle Sam doesn't get his money when he dies either by giving it to charity.

question: was Buffett moaning and bitching about his taxes being too low when he was in his 40’s and 50’s? just curious.

If Buffett wanted to pay more taxes, he would not avoid Federal estate taxes by donating his billions to the non profit Bill Gates Foundation.

This is the most important item. It echos the rebuttal one of the Kock brothers wrote. Obviously, Warren Buffet believes his money does more good in the private sector, i.e. the Gates Foundation, than it would if he sent it to the Federal Government.
