PRINCETON, NJ -- President Barack Obama is closely matched against each of four possible Republican opponents when registered voters are asked whom they would support if the 2012 presidential election were held today. Mitt Romney leads Obama by two percentage points, 48% to 46%, Rick Perry and Obama are tied at 47%, and Obama edges out Ron Paul and Michele Bachmann by two and four points, respectively.

Someone wants Romney to run. Are we going to let them pick our candidate again?

This is disinformation designed to bolster the nearly dead campaign of Mitt Romney.

I hope there aren’t too many more conservative candidates jumping into the race when they see how beatable Obama is. That’s what happened in the last governors race in Illinois. There were several conservatives running in the primary, they cancelled each other out and a moderate candidate won. Seems like the same scenario for Romney. The Dem Quinn narrowly beat the Republican in the election. One of Quinn’s first acts as governor was to raise the state income tax 67%. He has been a disaster....

Reagan was portrayed as extreme by the media for months before the election. However, in the debates, Reagan absolutely crushed Carter. Right before the election, there was a massive shift to Reagan, despite the media propaganda.

The poll doesn’t give a margin of error, so it’s likely that all of these match-ups are statistical ties. This doesn’t prove anything. It doesn’t mean that Romney is a better candidate than the others to match up against Obama.

If a poll like this is so bad, can you IMAGINE the horrors the DNC is seeing in internal polling?

Oh wow I had forgot about that. Register Voter polls like this one always drift Left of reality by several points. The internal polls at the DNC must be a nightmare!

LOL

Makes you wonder about what?

The fact that Obama can muster no more than a tie, against several candidates many people in America have never even heard of IS shocking. It shows just how unpopular he has become.

Even Jimmy Carter was polling 2 to 1 over Reagan at this point. The Obama people must be frightened by these results.

I found it shocking...that you found it SHOCKING.

A zombie should be able to beat Obama...with the right message.

Shocking...only to the polling people, and you..Maybe.

But not to me...and I'd guess millions of others.

Fair enough.

I can tell you that I have studied political polling for years and have also conducted polls for some GOP Congressional candidates. In my experience, it is virtually unprecedented for a sitting incumbent to be tied at this point against named candidates that many people have never heard of. Typically, the only exceptions to this occur when there are widely publicized scandals involved.

I will be watching other polling outfits to see if their numbers replicate these results. Gallup sometimes gets wild swings in their polls because of the methodology they use.

Given the fresh interest shown by people like Christie and Pataki, it looks like they very well could be valid.

Polls are done...many times to create "news".

Polls are often very wrong.

In an actual matchup with voters voting at polling places in November Romney must lose to the kenyan. What does he have to run on? “I can do it more efficiently?” Why would th voters settle for a half baked fake when they can have the real thing again?
