The reason there are no shale plays indicated SE of the Appalachian front in SE US is that that terrane is actually a left-behind piece of the African shelf ... My sister was born in the SE US. I tell her that because that part of the US came from Africa, that she was therefore African-American. In a sense we all are, given the evidence that mankind can trace its ancestry to Africa through DNA analysis.
Reunite Gondwanaland! (Or in this case, Laurasia.)
To: rustbucket
You wouldn't want to see Gondwanaland amalgamated without a defensive alignment of Laurentia and Laurasia, would you? ;)
Long live Laurentia, death to Gondwanaland!

For example if you need and buy a 1MW turbine and only get 350KW your not getting your dollars worth.
The phony max wattage advertising (done by corporate government metrosexuals and their similar competitors) is not done
here.
"
Wind Turbines of all types are maintenance headaches."
Yes, even maintaining
a turbine with a large alternator mounted on a trailer hub would be too much for most individuals these days. Most men are SNAGs (sensitive New Age guys), who would cry instead of doing any real work.
It's obvious that we need the default brought by the worthless parasites in business, politics and academia today. Tomorrow will belong those technically inclined and willing to do real work.

And BTW, the "capacity factor" is not relevant, either. The actual output over sufficient time per dollars spent is relevant.
This homebuilt one will produce over twice what is shown (not the usual max falsely advertised by companies) with the MidNite Classic MPPT controller (easy enough to find around the Net).
I'm about three miles or more from the nearest power grid hookup. Contrary to your generalizing argument, grid power would be far more expensive here. PV, solar radiant and wind are not. And I don't sell or install any energy equipment for others (or take any socialist tax credits). I do advocate for others to get away from any and all corporate government slavery any way that they can.
And to stop buying anything that they don't really need. Starve the beast. Stop generating revenues for big government and nonproductive, government-linked businesses.

I also hate all the thugs that are doing their best to destroy our country....I hope EVERYONE that plans to vote really pay attention to just what is at stake....our nation,....our beloved country cannot survive another 4 years of this administration. And it’s BOTH parties, I’m sorry to say. There’s more than enough blame to go around.

Make fossil fuel so expensive it will be Comparable to the solar Panels that are less reliable
To: Kaslin
We need a national campaign as follows:
Oil is GOD’S SOLAR ENERGY. All our energy comes from the sun, God has stored it for us from millenniums before. We are just stupid not to use His solar energy.

I wouldn't count to heavily on Perry either.Oh, good grief. His defiance of the EPA is practically the REASON the Obama admin is doing this power grab (pardon the pun).
To: Constitutionalist Conservative
Never mind the millions of taxpayer dollars he’s dumping into green energy that’s going nowhere.

This “rule” is national in scope, but make no mistake — Rick Perry’s defiance of the EPA inspired it, and the greatest adverse economic impact will be felt in Texas. If Texas utilities buckle under, the adverse impact will start crippling the Lone Star State just in time for the 2012 election.

You are correct regarding actual King Ranch. I was referring to the general area more precisely on the northern edge of KR. Maybe is actually on another big ranch, don’t remember its name. Kennedy?

Wind farms are not totally useless and can produce cheaper electicity, just not as reliable as coal or gas fired gen.

You are right about the name. One of the groups the ranch was fighting over wind turbines was the Kenedy Ranch. Here's an old newspaper article about the King Ranch and its opposition to proposed wind turbines nearby.
LinkThere are wind turbines across the bay east of Corpus, but they are nowhere near as concentrated as those south of Sweetwater or on the mesas east of Fort Stockton.

My son worked out there a short while during construction as a Service Tech with Mitsubishi, but didn’t stay long because he thought their safety program would end up getting one of the Techs killed. He went back to helos @ CCAD.
