In the sequel, the lead ape is shot in the back by another ape who looks a lot like Stalin.

I figured the movie would be complete crap. Now I know why.

Nice confirmation that I was right to pass on seeing it.

The trailers made it clear the story line would not mesh with the originals.

Che tried to bring revolution to Africa and South America. Remind me how that worked out for him...

The only monkey movie I’ve ever liked was the original “KIng Kong”. It had failed heros, pathos, and a classical story line. Great stuff!

I’m not really clear if he means the Che comparison the way it’s being taken here. The story of a partisan leader rising up and leading the people could be told about many beyond Che. Think of Francis Marion, Boudicca, or even Robin Hood.

Some for good and some not, some on a large scale and some more more modestly. But either way the imbalance of power lends their story a romanticism beyond it’s political core.

Is there a scene in the movie were the lead ape lines up thousands of men, women, and children up against a wall and orders them executed?

Ceasar shows far more mercy to his enemies than Guevara ever did.

Also, he wasn't an arrogant, entitled, just-educated-enough-to-be dangerous thug.

I thought the movie was great. I'd have no problem taking my kids to it, if they were a little older.

Wonder if anyone perceived the originals this way?

I loved the movie, it was extremely entertaining! I didn’t catch any resemblance to Che - would recommend the movie to everyone. (Is it bad that I was rooting for the apes at the end?)
