Actor David Cross To Olbermann: TV "Gets Rid" Of Elderly "Not Contributing Anything" (video)

Comedian and actor David Cross appeared on Current TV's "Countdown" program Monday evening to promote his upcoming movie and other gigs when the conversation turned to a recent study that watching one hour of television shortens your life by 22 minutes.

Cross was being very serious on how this would benefit his pocket because that would mean he would not have to pay for medical care of the elderly who are "not contributing anything." Keith Olbermann, the host of "Countdown," believes this is a Darwinian idea. Transcript below:

David Cross: "I don't mind, I like the idea -- or I'm comfortable with the idea that TV watchers are having their lives shortened because then you're talking about just hundreds of millions of really elderly people who are just going to watch TV anyway. And that's just a medical care that I'm going to end up having to pay for and they're just watching TV, they're not contributing anything.

You must all know half a dozen people at least who are no use in this world, who are more trouble than they are worth. Just put them there and say Sir, or Madam, now will you be kind enough to justify your existence? If you can’t justify your existence, if you’re not pulling your weight in the social boat, if you’re not producing as much as you consume or perhaps a little more, then, clearly, we cannot use the organizations of our society for the purpose of keeping you alive, because your life does not benefit us and it can’t be of very much use to yourself.

This sounds outrageous but it is the logical end result of the Welfare State / Socialist thinking. Socialism can’t get around the fact that resources and services are not unlimited. Shortages develop and if you don’t have a market based on voluntary purchases, there has to be another way to allocate the resources. So in Socialism its political. Which groups are deserving of the services and goods? In practice, this means corruption—connections get you services, and the designation of certain groups as unworthy of getting services. The political masters start off picking on easy targets—criminals, smokers, terminal patients with little time left. Then they move to a broader group—the elderly who “aren’t productive” anymore. This was summed up best about 20 years ago by John Silber—when you’ve lived a long life, its “time to go” and you have a duty to society to die to avoid taking up resources. The elderly who vote for Welfare State Socialism have blinders on and can’t see the danger in what they are advocating.

Just in case you don't know who David Cross is.

His big claim to fame is playing the bad guy in the two "Alvin and the Chipmunks" movies.

He usually plays a real a$$hole. Type casting.

“Comedian and actor David Cross”

I’m sure he’s someone but I have no idea who. Although his comments make me think of that other “comedian” - bill maher.

David Cross’ logic would apply to people on welfare, because they are not contributing to society. In fact they are taking more resources. The elderly just have occasional medical bills. The welfare people need total support year after year.

What a loser.

A guy who makes a living as a TV entertainer says TV viewers should die off because they are not contributing anything?

has anyone told his advertisers and sponsors that their money is being wasted on a useless medium??

Why not get rid of actors and “comedians”? What do they contribute to society but stupidity?

Isn’t he the nerd running the video shop in MIB II? Figures that his biggest contribution in that movie, besides still living in his mother’s home at age 40, was to ask ‘gentlemen, what’s up with anal probing?’ when asking about aliens.

Sounds to me like this "actor" is very close, if not in fact, reasserting the idea of "useless eaters" that another progressive group from the 20th century put forward.

That group was called "The National Socialist Germans Workers' Party".

History repeats itself with useful idiots at the forefront.

Old people watching tv. Younger people on facebook, messaging, ipods, iphones, etc. What’s the difference?

Unfortunately this is what is being taught in medical schools these days. I sat and listened to a young Physician’s Assistant student, who was raised in a conservative Christian home and church, blabber on about how socialistic medicine for primary care is the answer to our medical healthcare problems. But, he said, we can’t provide health care for everyone, and that resources need to be used primarily for children and young people, rather than the elderly. The Baby Boomers are going to take up all the current resources, he said, and lamented that they feel “entitled.” When I pointed out that they ARE entitled because they are the ones who have funded the system as it stands now, he said with a condescending smile, “Well, the Baby Boomers are just going to have to be willing to give up what is entitled to them for the benefit of society as a whole.”

His words sent chills up and down my spine; still do, when I recall them. Not sure how such moral depravity has crept so solidly into his thinking after years of being raised in a conservative Christian environment. Just shows you how a few short years in academia can warp a person’s mind.

Yeah, round them up for "Carousel". Better yet, turn them into Solyent Green. Youngsters gotta eat.
