Read the sadly laughable claims that if the GOP got rid of fiscal conservatism and focused on social wedge issues, it would build a “permanent Republican majority.” Read all of his references to how McKinley and Hanna created a Republican majority and his dreams of doing the same. Read what he said about how he could swing West Virginia to the GOP by promoting protectionist policies in 2002. Read about how he justified strong-arming small government Republicans into supporting Free Drugs for Seniors and No Child Left Behind in the beginning of Bush’s term. Rove did only one thing right—he found a way to get George Bush re-elected in the face of unrelenting media hatred. Apart from that, he was a disaster. The architect of Compassionate Conservatism as a political tool. He and his creature need to go away.
