The Dismal GOP Field
The American Thinker ^ | Matt Patterson

Posted on 08/23/2011 6:52:31 AM PDT by harpu

Let me get this straight: The conservative presidential field includes (1) the father of a socialized medicine regime every bit as disastrous as Obamacare, but who thinks his was OK because it was at the state level, (2) a woman who, in spite of having no interest in the subject, studied tax law because her husband told her to, and (3) a man who think it's OK if Iran gets nukes.

Holy crap. Romney, Bachmann, and Paul respectively seem to have distinguished themselves primarily by displaying astonishingly poor judgment. No wonder everyone is salivating over Rick Perry, hoping and praying he is the second coming (Perry himself is leading the prayer service). He may or may not be; like most Americans, I am just getting acquainted with the Texan.

One thing's for sure, however - conservatives deserve better candidates than the current crop, or at the very least more options. So for Chris Christie, Paul Ryan, Sarah Palin, or anyone else thinking of getting into the race, my advice is: Do it. There's room for you. There are a lot of conservative voters looking at the buffet and wishing they had ordered the fish (I don't know what that means either).

...snipped to the end...

Democrats vs. Republicans

Every election is a brand new game, we watch, we cheer and yet all the players are on the same team ...

My guess is the writer is taking some offhanded comment completely out of context. Which tells me he’s got an agenda he’s not being completely honest about.

That’s pretty weak criticism of Bachman. Please criticize her on the issues or her actions as a legislator. The writer really had to go out on a limb to find something to criticize Bachman for.

One thing the writer isn’t admitting.......Republicans running are far better than anything the Democrats have. All we have to do is refine what we’ve got.

Ms. Bachmann has said she had no particular interest in tax law but moved into the field at the direction of her husband, Marcus.

” ‘Tax law? I hate taxes. Why should I go do something like that?’ “ Ms. Bachmann said in 2006 remarks at the Living Word Christian Center in Brooklyn Park, Minn., recounting a conversation she had with her husband. “But, by faith, I was going to be faithful to what God was calling me to do through my husband, and I finished that course of study.”

No one else is going to run, Perry is going to take it easy, and then proceed to destroy Obama in the general.

It's early in the race. The true heavy hitters won't join in until later, once the field is clear and they can coalesce their support.

Agreed. The writer's favorite candidate apparently hasn't entered the race yet.

Which is fine, wave your favorites flag. But trashing the rest is foolish & short sighted.

Yes, but it’s kind of like asking a blind man what color the sky is. The average voter can’t even see the larger context, and loves to get bogged down in some single issue Outrage of the Week. Aside from “Stop Voting and Go Galt” there isn’t even any good advice to give.

I hadn't heard this, thanks

This makes me like her even more. IMO Bachmann is the best of the field. I have no problem supporting her.

Ron Paul...poor judgement?????????? I don’t think so! Ron Paul is the only one that has read the constitution.

It will be far more difficult to come up with a Republican nominee to challenge Premier Hussein than it will be for that nominee to win in a landslide.

But I repeat myself...

There is not one thing the woman said that a normal person could take issue with, I hated taxes and tax studies myself but I still passed the courses.

I think the dismal part is Romney and Perry leading the pack so far - that is very distressing to me I have to admit.
