Rep. Maxine Waters and other black leaders lobbed heated questions at one of President Barack Obama’s top jobs advisers Monday, pressing him to confirm the White House is focusing on creating jobs in struggling African-American communities — and to say the word “black.”
Don Graves, the executive director of the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, said at a nighttime forum at a black church in Miami that the president is “focused on every community across the country,” The Miami Herald reported.
But when he added that “certain communities have been hit harder than other communities,” Waters pushed him. “Let me hear you say ‘black,’” the California Democrat said.
As the crowd cheered, The Washington Post said in its report on the Congressional Black Caucus-sponsored event, Graves quietly said: “black, African-American, Latino — we’re going to focus on getting people back to work.”
The approach that assisting all communities helps African-Americans get jobs is “a bunch of bull,” Rep. Laura Richardson (D-Calif.) said, according to the Post. Later, she asked Graves whether he would help shuttle dozens of pieces of jobs legislation authored by CBC members to the president so he could enact them using executive authority.
“You all don’t need to go through me to get to the president,” Graves said.

I believe that Maxine is attempting to certify and re-inforce her street creds in an attempt to reward her supporters who stuck by her through the fraud accusations, or graft, whatever it was with her husband and their bank.
Very true. I pray one day someone can put Waters in her place and not be afraid to speak the truth to her about her demagoguery and about how black people need to seriously change their culture.

I understand your reference, and the intent of the law was to benefit blacks more than any other demographic,
but the result was that “other” demographics were able to take advantage of it, because they weren’t bold enough when the AA laws were written to say “this is only for blacks”.
This is what Marxine wants done. She doesn’t want “minority” set-asides and benefits, she wants “Black” set-asides and benefits.
Except that was what was wanted when Kennedy enacted AA in 1961. Only, as you say, they weren't bold enough to state it up front. Remember, it led to the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which can be said to be even more geared toward Blacks. All-in-all, I think it can safely be said we have had legislation aimed toward the Black community since the Kennedy Administration.
Of course, it's a different environment today, and a Maxine Waters can get away with such remarks. After all, as someone posted in response to me above, only Whites can be burdened with the label of bigot.

Hmmmph. So Maxine prefers “Black” to “African American”... I do too, but now I feel dirty.
Obama doesn’t have to do anything special for Blacks. They will never turn on him and the bleatings of the CBC are empty threats, street theater, to mollify the followers. They will come back to Obama like a battered spouse.
Seriously, I was forced to pass a course in college that told me that only I - a white, hetero, able male - was capable of racism.

CA-35 (Waters’ district) is slightly less than 30% black; it is actually majority hispanic. The new CA-43 is only 24% black.
CA-37 (Richardson’s) is only 22% black; 49% hispanic.
Richardson herself I don’t think is more than 50% black.
The new CA-44 is something like 17% black.
don’t forget the Asians....
