Worse Than Isabel?
Foot's Forecast ^ | 8/23/11 | Foot's Forecast

A majority of the Delmarva Peninsula and the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan area may see tropical-storm force winds, rainfall and coastal surge reaching or exceeding that of Isabel in 2003. Unless the current NHC track changes considerably, it suggests impacts to the Mid-Atlantic will be similar in scope to Hurricane Floyd in 1999 (NOAA), Fran in 1996 (USGS) and Hazel in 1954 (NGS)

Isabel was just awful awful awful here in Waldorf (So. Md.)

We were in the basement all night long, with babies in cribs crying at water coming in.

I’m not looking forward to Irene at all!

Mr. Foot is a high school science teacher here in MD. His blog lets him indulge his hobby of forecasting.

He’s very, very good, along with the crew of local kids he’s assembled. I recommend MD FReepers bookmark his site.

The site is not a 24/7/365 forecasting operation like AccuWeather or WeatherUnderground, and doesn’t pretend to be. He does offer excellent in-depth forecasting and reporting for our area when the storms come.

Thanks Gabz. I think everything is pretty good there. It’s HERE I am more worried about :)

OK - but we’ll be around - sort of.

We had planned to spend the weekend in Dover and come back Sunday afternoon, but as of now we’re still planning on going up Friday morning, but leaving to come back Saturday about mid day.

Be safe driving. It’s kind of hard to plan when no one knows where and when it will hit.

I thought we were going to beat it - the prediction lines seemed to keep moving east. But now I see that they have shifted westward, opening the possibility that Irene will come right up the bay. That won't be pretty.

Stock up on batteries and canned protein drinks. And potable water.

"Isabel was the one where the winds pushed the water up to the top of the bay and wouldn’t let it recede for days. Lots of damage from wind and the excessive prolonged high tides."

Thanks. Predictions had looked good for a couple of days, but now it looks like it is coming right to the mouth of the Chesapeake - the Inner Harbor and Fells Point could really get hit, again.

Done.

This will surely suck.

Stay safe!
