SANTA ROSA COUNTY - The FBI seized the computer of a Santa Rosa County Commissioner today. The computer was being used by Commissioner Jimmy Melvin, but he says the FBI told him their investigation does not involve him.

The computer was used previously by former commissioner Gordon Goodin, and he told me tonight he doesn't have a clue why the FBI wants that computer.

While the FBI isn't talking, they seized documents from Team Santa Rosa earlier this year. That's the economic development group for the county.

The FBI wanted Team Santa Rosa's documents relating to the Blackwater State Prison in Milton, and the private company that runs it, Geo.

That company has been the subject of an ongoing investigations into the bidding to build the Blackwater facility. Milton was competing with other Florida cities for the prison, while Geo was competing with other companies to build it.

Former Commissioner, Goodin, told me the point-group locally was Team Santa Rosa.

When the FBI seized their documents, they had particular interest in any and all documents about meetings with former state lawmaker, Ray Sansom.

Sansom was the one who actually originated the Blackwater Prison deal with an amendment in the 2008 state budget. More on that in a second. The prison eventually cost the state 140-million dollars. The FBI has also subpoenaed Sansom's former assistant, Samantha Sullivan.

The subpoena calls for Sullivan to appear before the grand jury and submit all records pertaining to her role as Sansom's aide, including expense accounts.

Those records show he took a trip to Boca Raton on March 27th, 2008, where the Geo company is based. Sansom called the trip 'personal business.' Just days later, Sansom put a line in a house appropriations bill calling for $110-million for a private prison in the state. That eventually became the funding for the prison in Milton. At that time, Sansom was serving as House Budget Chief, under then Speaker, Marco Rubio.

So what has all this got to do with a computer in Commissioner Jimmy Melvin's office today? The FBI won't say. It may be nothing. Then again, it may be huge. Stay tuned.
