I've read two different authors (conservative authors of course) describe "liberals" as analogy-impaired. That set me remembering conversations with some of the leftists in my family (can't avoid family, eh?) and son-of-a-gun it is true.

One can't use analogy or any form of verbal short-hand with leftists. That includes common analogies and verbal shortcuts in everyday use which eveyone else understands. When one does finally get the concept across, one is going to get one of "is not!" (deny facts); "you're raaaacist"; "that's stupid" (meaning you're stupid for knowing it); or they just ignore what you say and throw up a straw man...

When I do have to deal with the lefties, I stick to weather (usually OK) or "have you seen any good movies lately" type stuff. The lawyer BIL (total jerk) is always trying to start one of his little lawyer games. Talks a lot - never listens - always the smartest guy in the room -- in short, a legend in his own mind. Typical leftist.
