Peggy Noonan: Is Rick Perry too macho?
Hot Air ^ | August 25, 2011 | Allahpundit

I can’t shake the feeling that this column might not be well received by the base.

She’s referring, of course, to his comments about Bernanke’s near-treason and offhand musings about secession:

Mr. Perry’s primary virtue for the Republican base is that he means it. He comes across as a natural conservative, Texas Division, who won’t be changing his mind about his basic premises any time soon. His professed views don’t seem to be an outfit he can put on and take off at will. In this of course he’s the anti-Romney. Unlike Ms. Bachmann, he has executive experience, three terms as governor of a state with 25 million people.

His primary flaw appears to be a chesty, quick-draw machismo that might be right for an angry base but wrong for an antsy country. Americans want a president who feels their anger without himself walking around enraged…

[T]he nation is roiling and restive. After Mr. Obama was elected, the right became angry, feisty, and created a new and needed party, the tea party. The right was on fire. The next time a Republican wins, and that could be next year, it will be the left that shows real anger, with unemployment high and no jobs available and government spending and services likely to be cut. The left will be on fire. The only thing leashing them now is the fact of Mr. Obama.

So there will be plenty of new angers out there. It probably won’t be helpful if the next president is someone likely to add to the drama with a hot temperament or carelessness.

Yes Peggy, the very personality trait (MANLINESS) that is one of best assets, is his "primary flaw."

As was the situation with Noonan and Palin, Peggy won't simply come out and say that she can't stand Perry. Like Rove and the rest of the threatened elites, she defaults to playing the role of "concern troll."

They really have our best interests at heart (really) - they're just... concerned.

Peggy Noonan is a NY city girl who’s pro’bly never met a real macho man. NYC only sports the limp wristed men who currently once in awhile pretend to be macho men on a stage or screen.

She’s pro’bly never met a true son of the soil who is big, yet gentle, but believes that direct speaking is best, and calling a spade a spade. She’s used to smarmy smootheness and prattling pimpies.

I seriously doubt she’s ever even broken a fingernail in an honest day’s work.

And this... person?.... thinks that is a problem? Speaks volumes for who she would think is right for us. Glad I can tell her to take a flying leap a a rolling donut.

Peggy highlighted her own irrelevance through comments about Obama. She needs to get off the valium, hooch, oxi-codone, or whatever has her living in la-la land. Maybe she just ought to move out of the liberal wasteland.

“I can’t shake the feeling that this column might not be well received by the base.”

Don’t know what base you mean, Noonan, but I stopped reading right there. Saw it was you.

Hopefully what follows won't offend anyone...

I've long thought that Noonan high poin was the Challenger speech she wrote for Reagan. It was absolutely perfect, struck just the right note, and equally as important...it came across as perfectly natural for Reagan....

Admittedly, it's hard to top that..but for Peggy, it's been all downhill ever since...but since 2006, the slide has been more like a plunge to the bottom of an elevator shaft..almost straight down...

Since she was discussing Perry's presumptive "macho" quotient..I suspect that Peggy just needs to get l**d...

A real man is not the same thing being “macho.”

A real man shows he can meet the toughest challenge—the test of morals. If Perry has done this, I haven’t seen it.

Before I support Perry, I want to see his record of manliness.

What’s wrong Peggy? Concerned because ... oh horrors of horrors, he is an Eagle Scout, supports the Boys Scouts, and follows the 12 points of the Scout Law?

•Trustworthy,
•Loyal,
•Helpful,
•Friendly,
•Courteous,
•Kind,
•Obedient,
•Cheerful,
•Thrifty,
•Brave,
•Clean,
•and Reverent.

I generally like Peggy’s writing. I don’t always agree , and she can be very touchy-feely which I find irritating in the age of Oprah.

Her attitude on Perry reminds me of my wife, who simply doesn’t like Perry’s looks and persona. I’m going to discuss this with her further and get her to come around.

Obama is a girlie man, and while I’m certainly not a Marlboro Man myself, I recognize a man’s man in a leader, and I like it. My Dad was like that. I aspire to that.

give it up.

Trying to paint Perry as a RINO is about as silly as a group of KKK members debating whether David Duke is a “Racist In Name Only”.

More trip from a brain-dead self-appointed elitist dimwit who was convinced of the skid mark’s “brilliance”. Hey Peggy.... STFU.
