Georgia voters hear Neal Boortz supporting Herman Cain on a daily basis. There’s a strong cadre of Cain support there, as Herman has been a sub for Boortz and friend of Boortz for years.
“but please no Ron Paul (progressive libertarian) or Romney (progressive RINO). I dont want to have to gag when I cast my vote.”
Amen to that. RP in particular needs to go away. After we defeat BHO with a VIABLE candidate, put him in charge of the Treasury or, even more fun, the Federal Reserve. But on anything else, especially foreign policy (which is critical in the world we face today), he’s dangerous to our health.
“Paul brings in supporters from outside the area.”
That’s a fact. His kids had countless “meet-ups” all over the country to do marathon fundraising to meet various deadlines. One Sunday back in ‘08 I was driving through the Plaza (a nationwide tourist attraction area here in KC) and they were swarming it with signs and stopping traffic.
Since Rick Perry just like Bachmann, Cain, or Palin are very viable conservative candidates any one of which I will be perfectly happy to support.
Now you can trash my governor with your democratic bucket of horse manure all you want. But I know the facts...and I am going to support him.
I thought Newt lived in Great Falls, Va (I am being funny)
Ron Paul has been raising a lot of money --virtually all it from individual donors rather than corporations -- but he's been doing it almost every month, rather than going for the big one time donations. He just raised $2M from ordinary folks on his birthday. And he's raised more money from active duty military than all the other Republican candidates, combined. (As one friend put it, "It's because the military are pro-life -- their own")
Paul has an incredibly dedicated following that will do whatever they possibly can for him, including drive long distances in order to be able to support him in these straw polls. I wouldn't assume that he's bought his votes, because he doesn't need to.
Plus, Ron Paul has Doug Wead as his political strategist. Wead was campaign adviser to both Bushes, and is the guy who came up with the term "compassionate conservative". Wead wouldn't get involved if it wasn't to win.
This isn't the 2008 election with the Ron Paul campaign run by amateurs. This is a professional campaign. The corporate owned media may want to muzzle Paul because they don't want their privileged positions shaken up, but they aren't doing a very good job of it when even John Stewart can make them look like jackasses.
The Republican Party has both an opportunity and a problem with the Ron Paul supporters. The opportunity is that like Reagan, they have people willing to vote for him who wouldn't vote for another Republican. The problem is that if Ron Paul is not the ultimate Republican presidential candidate, their loyalty is to Ron Paul, not necessarily to the Party -- and they are sizable enough a group to be the difference between an Obama or a Republican win. The more that guys like Limbaugh try to humiliate & dismiss Ron Paul & his supporters, the less likely they are to get them as Republican voters in the general election -- and make no mistake about it, it IS going to be a close race between Obama and whoever.
Love him or hate him, Ron Paul is a force to be reckoned with this time around. His supporters aren't just a handful of dope smoking hippies anymore.
