“I am not a homosexual and I never went”?

“Fui” is the first person singular past tense of “ir,” “to go.” Fui, fuiste, fue ... I went, you went, he/she/it (as in the case of the article’s subject) went ... fuimos, fueron.

"Fui" is also the first person preterite of SER ("era" is the first person imperfect). Don't forget that there are 2 simple past tenses in Spanish. So you say "yo fui la mejor alumna en este examen" or "yo era la mejor alumna la semana pasada".
