Rick Perry has Distanced Himself from George W. Bush's Brand of Conservatism
Washington Post ^ | August 29, 2011 | Perry Bacon Jr.

Posted on 08/29/2011 6:46:20 AM PDT by DRey

Texas Gov. Rick Perry, like most of the other the GOP presidential hopefuls, says his campaign is about undoing the decisions of President Obama. But Perry also presents a stark alternative to the last Republican to occupy the White House, his fellow Texan George W. Bush.

In his writings and speeches before he entered the race, Perry shared the view, widely held among conservatives, that Bush’s government spending habits in office were a betrayal of the GOP’s core fiscal principles. But Perry went further, dismissing “compassionate conservatism,” the central tenet of Bush’s domestic policy, as just more overreach by the federal government.

As President, he’ll have to meet with leaders of groups (nations) who have promised to obliterate our country.

Yes, but he will not be seeking their votes for President of the United States. Trying to get such an organization to vote for you, as opposed to exposing them for the treasponous serpents they are is not a good thing. That's my point on this issue.

I understand the politics...I just heartily disagree with them.

The Feds should pay for National Defense...I agree...but they can use the Guard to help with national defense...and securing the border is exactly that.

I agree. The liberals see weakness. They know the the country is looking for a way out of this mess. So they blame they accuse and they will in the end use violence if they don’t get what they want. We have seen it with the Unions and now Maxine Waters to the black mods attacking people.. I believe the ultimate goal and I hope I am wrong is to have a big civil blowout and then Obama to call martial law. I just don’t know anymore? Anything is possible with this socialist dictator in office.

The media said the exact same things about McCain.

But hey, what do I know? Stick your head in the liberal noose just because they say it makes you look stylish. :)

No, they didn't. They didn't attack McCain until he was the Republican nominee. Prior to that, he was the darling of the MSM. Your memory is as faulty as is your information on Perry and your judgment.

But that's okay, keep drinking the kool aid and living in your fantasy world.

What the Hell is your problem?

You want a RINO? Go for it.

But it’s not going to fix anything.

"What the Hell is wrong with you?"

Why don't you STOP LYING about Perry? What's the matter, can't you defend your own favorite without telling lies about Perry?

I guess not. That says a heck of a lot about you and about your judgment.

If built properly

You know what the border with Mexico is like...it would take nothing less than the Great Wall Of China to keep them out.

I’m still hoping for Sarah also. I’m surprised at how lockstep everyone is here for Perry when he hasn’t even been fully vetted yet and so many negatives are coming out. I’m new here, but I assumed that conservative site would care about the border and all that.

Look around, you’ll find plenty of folks questioning Perry.

Oh yeah, welcome to FR.

Your premise is that for a governor to resign is never justifiable. So your argument collapses.

>> The only other candidate that was a governor is Romney, and he does not compare to Perry at all. So there is no one else in the race to compare with Perry on this issue. <<

Hmmm. So either you believe Jon Huntsman, Gary Johnson, and Buddy Roemer aren't seeking the GOP nomination for President, or the part of their bio that reads "Governor" is false?

Seriously?

What's next, is Perry going to be the "only southern candidate" for President too?
