Organizers of Wausau's Labor Day parade say Republican lawmakers aren't welcome in this year's event.

The Marathon County Central Labor Council sponsors the September 5th parade. The council includes about 30 local unions from the Marathon County area.

Council president Randy Radtke says they choose not to invite elected officials who have "openly attacked worker's rights" or did nothing to intervene.

We need to start a campaign to change the end of summer holiday weekend to something less marxist.

Any suggestions?

Labor Day is an illegal holiday supporting illegal groups who wish to install an illegal government.

It needs to be done away with.

What about the worker’s right to have their employer NOT GO OUT OF BUSINESS DUE TO OVERREGULATION AND A SH*TTY ECONOMY?

You have to remember one of the key aspects of a communist society - the only employer is the communist party via the government. Therefore, if the employer isn't under the direct control of the communist party, it MUST go out of business, because otherwise it competes with the communist party as an employer.

I read recently that since Indiana Gov Mitch Daniels eliminated the dues check-off for government employees, some 90% are NOT paying their dues.

Maybe WI GOP officialsshould hold a SEPARATE, BUT PARALLEL , parade, for workers who don't utilize dues check -off.

Sure does. Looks like a slight misspelling of “Rathke” as in Wade.

The first thing President Perry should do is change the name of Labor Day to Free Enterprise Day.

ROFLMAO I’m going to send that as a quote to my teacher’s union reps just to watch their heads explode....

I love it. Maybe “Opportunity Day” has a nice ring that also works well with the spirit of going back to school.

Land of opportunity. Equality of opportunity.

I guess “Labor” Day is like Martin Luther King Day for our Bolshevik minority.

If I were a GOP politician, I wouldn’t want to participate in their Communist parade anyway.

Using public streets for the parade? Tax money being used to pay for law enforcement and street barricades? Anything in the parade agreement about denying participation based on political affiliation?

Just askin’.

Public event, public access - show up anyway. What does the parade permit say? File suit to mess up the organizers day, etc. etc. They want a culture war, give them one.

Republicans not invited to Participate in this years Labor Day Parade!

by Marathon County Central Labor Council Afl-Cio on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 11:46pm.

As many of you may have already heard the Marathon County Labor Council has decided not to allow the Republicans in the parade this year, here is the comment I put out:

The Wausau Labor Day Parade is a time to celebrate the working men and women of Wisconsin. It is not a political event or stop on the campaign trail. It is a time for working families to come together to celebrate their hard work and a time where we recognize the labor movement for all they have given us — the weekend, the 40 hour work week, child labor protection, a safe work environment. It should come as no surprise that organizers choose not to invite elected officials who have openly attacked worker’s rights or stood idly by while their political party fought to strip public workers of their right to collectively bargain.”

Jean Listinsky Labor Day originated as a way to honor the fact that labor unions had recently brought about an improved standard of living for many hard-working average Americans. Current Repubs are rescinding those gains and ripping apart workers’ families’ lives. It would be ludicrous for the current Repubs to be present at such a celebration. I would have to wonder why they would even want to be there...

Wisconsin Against The Fist Thank you for banning Republicans now we can celebrate LABOR DAY the way it should be CELEBRATING LABOR not glorifying lazy union workers.
