Islamists are a group or individuals who advocate "Islam as a political as well as religious system. Chief Islamist objectives include implementing sharia (Islamic) law as the basis of all statutory issues." Islam is "the religious faith of Muslims, involving...belief in Allah as the sole deity and in Muhammad as his prophet."
So, according to the Commander, Mlitants are violent, normal islamicists are not...but still advocate Sharia Law.
Sharia Law would be the antitheis of the Constitution and would lead to a totalitarian islamic state.
I am sorry, but unless Sharia Law is disavowed, it leads to the subjugation of whole peoples. And that is the intent. They mean to achieve that goal. Some by violent means, others by using the ballot box if they can.
Anyhow, it would be interesting to get more from the former Marine Recon and FBI agents on his direct take on Youssef. He included him for direct reasons I am sure...but they are not mentioned in the article other than he sounds moderate but in reality is a Brotherhood advocate of some kind.
It would be interesting where he (Commandeer Youssef) categorizes the Muslim Brotherhood.
But, based on what I read at your link, it sounds like he is soft peddaling Sharia Law. Like seeking its implementation through peaceful means is somehow ok. I cannot. I believe it is a politcal/judicial system that would spell the death knell to liberty for any people who adopt it.

That sounds like what the writer of the article is putting forth as what the Commander is saying. It is troubling on the surface. I would want to know what the Commander’s feelings are regarding Islamists who are not violent. Political islam has no place in this country.
