Maybe its time to start a Jackboot Watch feature.
Weve got DOJ lawyers going after Gibson guitars. Theres the ongoing Fast and Furious debacle. Add the eco-nitwit rogues at the Interior Department. Then theres the War on Lemonade Stands.
And now, weve got the U.S. Attorney in Idaho filing federal charges against Jeremy Hill, a father who shot a grizzly bear on his property to protect his wife and kids even though state officials who investigated the case thoroughly took no action against the man. He now faces up to a year in prison and a $50,000 fine. He pleaded not guilty last week and faces trial in October:
**snip**
Having lived in bear country for three years now, I can say with certitude that Id do the exact same thing if faced with the situation Hill found himself in. Absolute certitude.
Idaho GOP Gov. Butch Otter has appealed to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to intervene on Hills behalf. Not likely that Obamas Loathsome Cowboy Salazar will do anything to help, but Otters letter will at least bring needed attention to this injustice.

If you shoot s bear don’t do the “right” thing and call the authorities. It is becoming clear that doing the right thing is often the wrong thing when it comes to government authorities.
Agreed, but unfortunately an "R" after one's name isn't a guarantee of sanity.
Jack-booted thug alert? Sounds good, lakeshark. Put me on your ping list.
Ditto. Count me in.
Shoot.
Shovel.
Shut-up.
When all the courts, all the law enforcement people, all the government bureaucracy, and all the media agree that it’s nobody’s frickin’ business whether the POTUS has committed social security and identity fraud, all that’s left for the machine to deal with is the mighty, weighty issues like every move you and I make.
If Michelle Malkin doesn’t want government spending time on piddles then she should not have mocked the rule of law on weighty issues such as whether an ineligible enemy combatant has forged and perjured his way into the White House where he can plant a treasonous DOJ and destroy the nation by getting rid of the rule of law.
I realize that Malkin had her career, life, and family threatened if she took the eligibility issue seriously, but did she seriously think that the bear mauling her before election would change its character and “play fair” after the election? When a bear is mauling your family you don’t negotiate with it.
The “conservative establishment” has negotiated with the lawless thugs trying to hide Obama’s ineligibility, and now they’re surprised to find that the bear that threatened them before the election is, in fact, STILL a bear threatening them? Some of us were telling them they could expect this a long, long time ago.
This insanity will never end, until we get serious about confronting the bear that is mauling us, our families, and our future. This insanity says that we have no right nor vested interest in protecting ourselves and our children from whatever powerful, blood-thirsty, lawless bear comes along wanting to destroy us. Whether that’s a physical bear or whether that is an ineligible, criminal enemy combatant who has stolen the White House and planted lawless regulators and DOJ as the coup de grace - either way, they would have us believe that it is none of our business, not our place to do anything about it.
If we accept that premise, we, our children, and any semblance of civilization will be ground to hamburger and eaten by the beast, all without a peep of protest.

I’m one that when we have stories like this will always say, “Shoot,Shovel,Forget”, but because of the lack of detail in this article I have questions.
Based on what I read and heard on TV the guy sees a bear and cubs in his backyard. Was this in a suburb or out in the boonies? Were his wife and children out in the backyard? How far away was the bear?
All I heard on TV was the guy sees a bear from his back porch, goes in gets his rifle and kills the bear.
I live on a golf course in North Carolina. If I saw a wild boar out in my backyard I’d want to go out and shoot it (and I just might) but I would have to make sure nobody caught me too.
Idahos U.S. Sen. Mike Crapo, who serves on the committee that oversees the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which filed the charges, also expressed his view Friday.
I have deep concerns about this incident and the decision of the government to prosecute Mr. Hill, who did what any parent would do in this situation, Crapo said. Clearly, Mr. Hill thought that his family was in danger and was protecting them from harm.
Idaho U.S. Sen. Jim Risch also had to weigh in, suggesting maybe the Endangered Species Act needs to be changed, a long held position of most Idahoans.
What Mr. Hill did was not a criminal act in the court of common sense, Risch, a former prosecutor himself said. My hope is that common sense prevails in this case.
Finally, Idaho U.S. Rep. Raul Labrador raised questions about whether the law needs changes. But He also had an opinion on the shooting.
Only Jeremy knows the threat this bear posed to his family and property, Labrador said. No one from D.C. or Boise was present to know the circumstances surrounding his actions, but the Endangered Species Act shouldnt force us to second-guess these types of life or death decisions.
If the facts that have appeared in the media accounts are true and accurate, then the judgment call Jeremy made to protect his family and property appears to be justified, he said.
I think the liberals believe a person in this situation should be eatin’, and let their family be eatin’ too.
Shoot

Shut-up

A reply from that thread:
NVDave to TYVets
"Something people should understand about predators in the area now:
Your report is entirely accurate - for 40 years ago. Back then, wolves had not been re-introduced, bears were rare and *scared* of man.
Today, the situation is far, far different. Wolves are spreading out all over the northwest US - theyre in WY, MT, ID, WA, UT, OR, and Ive heard of at least one sighting in northeast NV.
Grizzlies are now much more numerous than they were 40 years ago, and they know that humans dont put up much resistance - that weve been conditioned to back off now.
People should read the journals of Lewis and Clark to find out what bears were like back in the day before we pushed them back ."
-----------------------------------------
NVDave nails it:
Grizzlies are are predators and weve [ humans ] been conditioned to back off now. Thanks to the Endanger Species Act the bears no longer fear humans.
I have 4 great grand sons, if a grizzly, mountain lion, rattlesnake or any other harmful creature is near my house I will become the predator to protect those kids.
Where has common sense gone? Self defense is a God given right.
Living in rural SC, I have lot count of how many rattlesnakes and copperheads I have shot. This story reminds me of the day when I was watching my children play in the yard and a rabid fox came out of the woods. I tried to scare it away, but when it kept walking up towards the house, I got my husband's rifle and shot it. Do you really think I ever stopped to think whether or not it was legal to kill that fox? I called the SC Wildlife Dept after the fact and they just gave me directions on proper burial for an animal with rabies!
Keep in mind some of the bears will have radio trackers on them. Be prepared to deal with those and make those go away as well.
I think the Kings of DC have spent too much time in the city. They all deserve a vacation fishing for salmon in Alaskas fine streams. Oh, and serve bacon for breakfast, it has such a fine aroma you can smell for miles.
If your a Griz.
Shoot, Shovel, and Shut up, (SSS).
