SAN DIEGO -- A 16-year-old boy who police said was throwing rocks at several vehicles was recovering Tuesday after being shot with a crossbow fired by someone inside a small sport utility vehicle, San Diego police reported.
The victim and another boy were throwing rocks at vehicles about 2:15 p.m. Monday in the vicinity of Linda Vista and Mesa College roads, police said.
"That's where we're sorting out the stories," said SDPD Det. Gary Hassen. "One story says they were throwing rocks on Linda Vista Road. Another story says they were throwing rocks at another location."
Hassen said the boys got on a bus, and when they got off the bus, two young men in a black Toyota RAV 4 drove up. Someone in the SUV fired a crossbow, and an arrow hit one of the boys in the abdomen. He was treated at the hospital and is now at home, 10News reported.
Police don't know yet if the Toyota had been hit by rocks. The two teenagers in it, described as 16- to 17-year-old Latinos, got away and were last seen heading south on Linda Vista Road.

Hey, Dems, still want the Dream Act?
Stupid kid brought rocks to a crossbow fight.
Bet those two kids don’t throw rocks at cars anymore
I don’t think you fire a crossbow. I think you shoot it. 16 and 17 year olds are kids? Not in my book (or my dad’s).
Where did the arrow come from? Crossbows fire bolts.
Seriously...I knew that the lazy MSM would get their terminology wrong but I had to see it for myself.
No. bolts fire bullets
Mess with the bull, get the horns.
No kidding there, one of the passtimes for some of our urban outdoorsmen has been going to over passes and dropping rubble on cars below them traveling at 40-50MPH. Add the speed of the windscreen to the momentum built up by the falling debris and you have a recipe for disaster. Many overpasses now have screening so the outdoorsmen cannot do this but they always seem to find one that is not so protected. So, anytime someone drops one of these pieces of debris on my car, or attempts to do it, they are in the process of an attack with a deadly weapon and regardless of their age, I reserve the right of self defense.
Is this the latest euphemism for thug?
Cannot take credit for the phrase, it belongs to Neal Boortz who uses it to characterize the homeless.
Huh?
A bolt is just a specific type of arrow.
Some years ago, in my neck of the woods, an Army Ranger was killed as he returned to Ft. Drum in his civilian car by boys dropping rocks off a bridge over Route 81. I believe the one who actually dropped the fatal rock is in prison for the rest of his life.
I like how they call him “the victim”. Victim of _what_, his own stupidity?
What, exactly, did this gentleman hope to accomplish?
The has to be viewed as excellent. Did not some famous person recently say something like “you bring a knife and I will bring a gun.” These two ‘latino teenagers’ were merely following orders.
Actions have consequences, which is a lesson fewer and fewer “BOY”s are being taught.
While I don’t advocate using a crossbow to defend oneself from rock throwers, it does seem more than adequate as a teaching tool.
Glad no one died, equally glad a very profound lesson has been presented for the education of this “boy”. When you throw a rock, don’t be surprised if someone else throws a sharp stick(or nearly supersonic chunk of lead).
If the teen (no 16 year old is a mere boy) actually learn the lesson is now up to him.
Or quarells.
Or if they're REALLY BIG Roman crossbows, veruta or spiculum.
Scorpio habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabis, ad caput tuum verutam immane mittam.
