Barack Obama: Above the Law or Just Lawless?
Townhall.com ^ | August 30, 2011 | AWR Hawkins

To date, Barack Obama’s presidency has been characterized by many things, not the least of which has been a display of arrogance usually reserved for full-blown dictators like Hugo Chavez or crazies like Al Gore. And his personal haughtiness has been more than matched by members of his administration who have followed their fearless leader lockstep down a path of government expansion and economic implosion.

It’s been a slide from the exceptional to the mediocre, throughout which Obama appears to have deemed himself above the law. Thus, when he comes across a law with which he does not agree, he simply ignores it.

Case in point – the Defense of Marriage Act, which the Obama administration abruptly announced they would no longer enforce earlier this year even though it was passed by Congress in 1996 and has been the law of the land ever since.

Or consider another recent circumvention of Congress, whereby the Obama administration unilaterally decided they would no longer deport illegal immigrants en mass, but would review every case on a case by case basis, under the guise of freeing up resources to deport the most violent and dangerous illegal immigrants faster.

But this deportation talk is all a façade, because part of the announcement also contained news that the Obama administration wouldn’t deport illegal immigrants who are “attending school, [have] family in the military or [have] primary [responsibility] for other family members’ care.”

In other words, just because illegal immigration is a crime, that doesn’t mean illegal immigrants are criminals in the Obama lexicon. (After all, those illegal immigrants might be able to vote.)

And consider the myriad of violations – both international and domestic – that were part and parcel to the ATF’s operation “Fast and Furious.” (Included in these violations was the sale of 2,500 weapons to purchasers who were knowingly buying the weapons not for themselves, but for criminals, and the knowledge that those weapons would then be transported illegally across the Mexico/U.S. border, and the subsequent cover-up that continues to this day.)

Now that I think about it, maybe these aren’t examples of being “above the law” as much as they are examples of simple lawlessness, period.

This lawlessness results in the kind of nonsense exemplified last week, when the very DOJ that accused the Bush administration of using law enforcement to violate the civil rights of Americans raided Gibson Guitars over an environmental violation that allegedly took place in India (although Gibson Guitars has paperwork in hand that proves they’ve been operating legally).

The message to Americans is clear: Obama and his administration do what they want, when they want, as they want.

What we need to do is send them a clear message in 2012. One that hands them an electoral loss of such lopsided proportions that “hope and change” becomes a pejorative.

The only law they recognize is the Absolute Moral Authority of Liberalism. Every other law is flawed and inauthentic. So long as Obama acts as a standard bearer of liberalism, his actions will be seen as legal by his supporters. Because their law is not written, and their respects for laws that are written runs only so far as if they agree with what liberals feel to be true.

Bumbler’s cabal will be above the law only so long as we continue to elect reprobates to represent us. Our Constitution was based on our ability to elect men of conviction, moral fortitude and raw courage. As Ben Franklin said, “You have a Republic if you can keep it.” I fear that Jefferson’s words about the tree of Liberty are apt here as well.

This is so much like Clinton. His attitude was the same. Unless Congress had the cojones to reign him in (”no controlling legal authority”) it was “Screw you, I do what I want!”

We don’t remember just how much he got away with. This crap happened on a weekly basis. Of course, times were good then, and he was such a lovable big lug...

Well, he did once say that the Constitution is full of “negative liberties”.

Well just imagine what would happen if they enforce the laws and deported illegal immigrants. Obama would be on the next plane out. So the Obama Administration has to break the law to survive. At that point, your on the slippery slope.

Well, he did once say that the Constitution is full of “negative liberties”.

It's only because we have little frame of reference to what that means that most Americans aren't utterly terrified by that statement.

Liberals, on the whole, have no God but the State. Social justice, wealth redistribution and environmentalism is the spirit, but the state is the body.

Liberals feel that anything that restricts the power of the state to carry out the dictates of liberalism is a sin. That's why they don't register any negative feelings when the law is flouted. They. Don't. Care. The law means nothing to them unless it serves the cause. If it restricts the cause, then it's a virtue to ignore it.

If you think liberals would bat an eyelash if Obama gave the order to round up all guns, throw AGW deniers in labor camps, and seize the wealth of everyone with more than a million dollars in assets, you're wrong. The law means nothing to them.

Only the crude, Neanderthal consequences they'd suffer from the right keep them in check. Words on paper? Not so much.

The constitution is full of negative liberties, for the Government. It restrains their power and keeps them from becoming kings in their own minds. The Constitution is a Writ of Freedom for people and the Bane of Turd World wannabe dictators.

We need to wipe Congress and this administration clean next November, or forever hold our noses.

With a bunch of worthless POSs in congress and crooked judges on the bench, the old system of "checks and balances" isn't working anymore. The result is that The Constitution and The Bill of Rights have become doormats for the 0bama regime to wipe their feet on.

FUBO GTFO !

Yes, that’s what I was trying to say! If you have the view that this document is restrictive and restraining of your goals, then of course you are going to be inclined to blow it off, or ignore it. He was “Senator Government” after all. ; )

Liberals have always thought themselves above the law, but my concern this time around is that they are going much farther and suspend the law completely, i.e., 2012 national election. Mark my word, this crew has sufficient a grip on the government already to motivate it to go for broke this time. There does not appear to be anyone including the congress, military, law enforcement or the judiciary to stand them down. Notice Issa’s inability to get traction on Fast and Furious. Nothing significant is going to happen there because Holder and his army of minions are maintaining the ‘fire wall.’

Obama doesn’t need Satan to corrupt him. His ego does the job.

With the Republicrat/Dumbocan Party firmly in control of CONgress and, in effect, protecting Barry and his crew I would say the Usurper-in-Chief is above the law.
