Won’t be a backlash and it doesn’t matter what the judge’s reasoning is, either. If you put it to a vote, probably 95 percent of people who bother to vote would say they approve of the current system. The state meanwhile has said it fully intends to cha-cha in court in the traditional fashion.
Judges rule. Everyone prefers it to chaos and anarchy. Liberty is so 18th c.
