Pelsoi: GOP wants to ‘Destroy Government’, Wonders 'Do Their Children Breathe Air?’ Friday, September 02, 2011 By Eric Scheiner
(CNSNews.com) - During a Democratic fundraising event in San Francisco late last month, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D- Calif.) declared Republicans are ‘hijacking’ the deficit issue in order to ‘destroy the public space’ and wondered aloud “Do their children breathe air?”
An audience member recorded Pelosi’s address at the August 21, 2011 fundraiser where the California Democrat attacked Republicans on the deficit.
“The Republicans right now are using the idea of deficit reduction as an excuse, they’re hijacking an idea that has some resonance, we all want to reduce the deficit, in order to not reduce the deficit but to destroy the public space, destroy government,” Pelosi said.
The House Minority Leader went on to claim that public schools, public safety, clean air, clean water and food safety are among the targets of the GOP.

As I understand it, most of her constituents think exactly the same thing. In fact, if anything, I suspect that Pelosi is actually somewhat to the right of her constituents in San Fransisco.

Yes, Madam Minority Leader, my children breathe. One will be entering the job market in June, the other a year later. My choices seem to be (i) marginally cleaner air with little in the way of demonstrable public health benefits and (ii) better job prospects for my children. I choose the latter.
