Schapelhouman said that the incident happened inside a Membrane Technology lab where a scientist was in the process of transferring methane gas when the explosion took place, reportedly due to cylinder failure.
The scientist was killed in the accident and another co-worker who was assisting in the process was also injured, according to Schapelhouman. About two dozen employees at the lab had to be evacuated.
