Illegal immigrant 'scammed' out of lottery winnings by store clerk

He won $3 million, but his luck ended there.

An illegal immigrant was scammed out of a massive lottery jackpot by the man who ran the Rockland County store where the victim bought his winning scratch-off ticket, prosecutors said yesterday.

The alleged lottery crook told the winner that illegal aliens can't claim lottery prizes -- and that if the victim tried to collect his $3 million in winnings, he would be deported.

The claims were false; anyone can claim a lottery prize. But the lies scared the victim so much that he agreed to let the alleged scammer, a clerk at the A-Z Deli and Convenience store in Spring Valley, sign the ticket as a co-winner, officials said.

Certain terms and conditions apply. An American child cannot collect. An illegal alien has no legal right to be here to purchase the ticket. He should not be given privileges that American children don’t have.

I disagree. The lottery is a tax on stupidity. Like all taxes, its purpose is to raise revenue. Certainly, it would be bad public policy to discourage stupid immigrants from paying their taxes!

The lottery may be annoying when it slows down a checkout line at a convenience store, but one should console oneself with the thought of how gratifying it is to see the stupid pay their tax. Of course, the real task is to force the legislatures to use the revenue to reduce other taxes instead of to increase the size of government.

Luckily the lottery applies winnings under the "annuity" system. Otherwise one can bet "the birds would have flown". If not that the whole sum would have been sank somewhere else. A nice test case for the courts. I should imagine lawyers hovering.

Canada has case after case of store clerks being entrusted with a winning ticket. Ten dollars handed over to the person handing it in. Again and again, the authorities plead with purchasers of tickets.

Sign yer bloomin'' name on the ticket first.

Or words to that effect. Attempted alteration brings immediate scrutiny.

Correction: An American child can collect. They can’t purchase the ticket, but if it’s given to them as a gift the NY Lottery makes provisions for paying them.

Oh, and to qualify to sell lottery tickets they require you to be a resident of the state of NY, but not necessarily a legal resident. Looks like illegal aliens are authorized to sell NY State lottery tickets.

not so fast, the PowerBall ('09) lottery denied, a Illegal Mexican Laby (1/3) part of 126 Million prize in KY....
she didn't meet eligibly rules & she was deported.

Deport the Muslims for being criminals let the Mexican collect his winnings, then fine him 299,999,999 for being here illegally and deport him. The only problem with this is lots of illegals use their stolen welfare and SS and whatever to buy tickets this plan might discourage them slightly.

If they sold him a ticket he could not be eligible to win, this is another fraud. Bottom line is the lotto was happy to take his money, and they should pay up, or make sure that the identity of every purchaser is checked.

His legal status should be checked out and since he was here illegally, he should be deported.

Say someone hires a man to do some work, the man does the work, then the purchaser of the labor renigs, saying the illegal has no right to collect. Bull crap. Honor the deal, keep your word.

I can't believe so many think it is right to not keep ones part of the deal.

Please see post 49.

He was not legally entitled to be here to buy the ticket in the first place.

It is wrong to not keep a deal. Man to man, person to person. We just disagree.

You buy a ticket, you work the field, (back breaking work btw), you get the payment. Again we just disagree.

Should he be deported? Yep.
