Forgot to check and see that you specified *research physician*.

IMO, only, a pure scientist needs the infrastructure of grants from government, private industry and universities. I have a young relative who works in this capacity for a major pharmaceutical firm. Most of his colleagues are Chinese. This is his third employer in 10 years, since graduation, due to staffing cuts. Given the realities of his industry, it would not hurt him in the least to have practical skills. He couldn’t suture anything, BTW, let alone a button, which is a totally different stitch.

Never take a normalcy bias as representative of the future. We might pull out of this and all those with hard science degrees and professional employment will forever be assured of continued current status and employment. Or not.

Best of luck to you.

I was walking with my neighbor the other morning in the park and you should have seen all the 50 somethings there, male and female and couples.

The wife and I had just exited a MacDonalds and were getting ready to start the car when a well-dressed man came to the window and asked for some dough.

Jesu, I remember my dad talking about well-dressed people in threadbare suits asking for a quarter during the Depression. That incident rattled my cage more than any gloom-and-doom articles.
