‘I’m sorry, it’s my turn’
If Mitt’s supposed to be GOP nominee, someone forgot to tell Rick Perry

By Howie Carr | Sunday, September 4, 2011 | http://www.bostonherald.com | Columnists

You’re Mitt Romney, and this is how badly you want to be president — you’re going to a Tea Party event tonight in Manchester and tomorrow you’re flying to South Carolina to be with Sen. Jim DeMint, who’s never really been your ... cup of tea.

But this is what you have to do when you’ve been leading in the polls all year, and suddenly Texas Gov. Rick Perry jumps into the race and you’re behind by double digits, kicked down the stairs like you’re Tim Pawlenty or something.

You’re Willard Mitt Romney, and for the first time in your life, at age 64, you’re seeing first-hand, up close and personal, just how unfair life really can be.

Rick Perry! Why aren’t more people picking up on Gerry Doyle’s dead-on description of him — “Arlen Specter in cowboy boots?”

Didn’t everybody read that story last week? Republican “insiders” want you, Mitt Romney? Just your luck to be running in the one year when support from “insiders” is the kiss of death.

And by the way, the last name is Romney, not “Romneycare.”

You’re Mitt Romney, and man, you could have used all that free face time Deval Patrick got on TV last weekend during the hurricane.

You’re just a regular guy – that’s why you’ve stopped wearing ties. You still comb your hair straight back, Ronald Reagan style, but now sometimes you let a lock fall over your forehead, a la Superman.

All your accomplishments as governor — removing the Sagamore rotary, firing Fat Matt Amorello, pushing out Billy Bulger — and nobody in Iowa cares.

Where are the Winter Olympics when you really need them?

Six years straight you’ve been running for president, thinking this year it would be your turn — they’re starting to say maybe your father wasn’t the only one in your family who’s been “brainwashed.”

You’re Mitt Romney, and the only good news you got last week was that Uncle Omar never worked on the illegal-alien landscaping crew at your “sanctuary mansion,” as Rudy Giuliani used to call your home in Belmont.

You’re Mitt Romney, and you still remember the succinct words of Ronald Reagan in 1980 when the moderator in New Hampshire tried to turn off his microphone:

“I’m paying for this microphone, Mr. Green.”

But last week when a woman was heckling you, you couldn’t stop yelling.

“Fifty states in America, 50 states in America balance their budget every year, 50 states in America balance their budget every year. I balanced the budget every year.

Let, let, you had your turn, you had your turn madam. Let me have mine. Let me have mine. Listen, I’ll give you the microphone in a moment but let me complete. I’m sorry. It’s my turn....”

Those words could be your epitaph. It’s my turn. But this wasn’t about the nomination, it was about Mr. Microphone. Still, you kept repeating yourself. The heckler had morphed into Rick Perry, the “career politician,” as you call him.

“Would you please hold on a moment and let me finish? Good. All right. This is the answer. My state of Massachusetts... Look let me speak. Then you get to speak, OK? Just hold on for a moment. Just, just hold on. Let me, let me — I’m happy to have your question but let me complete. Madam, hold on a second, hold on a second...”

Because you can’t hold on any longer. It’s now or never. You’re Mitt Romney, and everyone else seems to have forgotten that. It’s your turn.

Some may be too young to remember but Mr. Microphone was a gadget in the 70s or 80s where you turned it on and turned the radio, say, in your car, to a certain (FM) frequency. Wow, you could suddenly boom your voice over it:
“Hey there good lookin’, we’ll be right over to pick YOU up!”,
a nerdy guy in a car was heard to say, using it. Mr. Microphone! Priceless!

Remember?

Howie is doing to Mitt what he did to ‘Muffy’.

...he’ll do anything for attention these days...

thanks to him in part, we ended up with Obama Light (or should we say, “Obama Short”) as he marginalized her campaign...for cheap laughs.

he is an ‘unrepentant journalist’.

Tuned in today and Col Hunt was on, at least at 3. I figured Howie would be off but, not Avi? Not Jen Brien? Tuned in again at 5 and they were re-running an hour from late July
with Ann Coulter. Just as well, I was heading thru Conn.
that day and having trouble with signal. So they went to a best of after awhile? (WNTK 99.7 had Red Sox on but WUVR
1490 and its FM simulcast on 98.9 did come in)

Did a daytrip to Concord NH and Lake Sunapee. I will say
around Concord there are roadside signs for Romney and also
for Rick Santorum. And heading toward the lake, some Ron Paul signs. Also spotted a couple moonbatmobiles, one with a VT license plate, “War is Not the Answer”, Obama/Biden etc.

Avi is the shining light as regards substitute hosts. I have a tendency to shift to WBZ or 1200 when the others are on. Has Jay Severin learned his lesson regarding his teenage sexual exploits? Nobody is interested Jay.

Jay's back on the air? Which Jay is it: the “small-ell” libertarian Jay or the Jay with the doofus side-kick?

I did see one of those Obama ‘12 stickers. Also one car had a big huge O symbol right nr the gas fill spot.
I sort mail for the post office and we’re getting some
return to senders (people moved; maybe refused?) from Obama
campaign. Prob begging for money, and as you might guess,
the return address is in Chicago area.

I searched and see that Jay has landed on AM radio. How the ‘mighty’ have fallen. Is he making fart jokes now as he accused AM radio of doing for so many years?

Beautiful People see a (Rick) Perry good deal in governor
By Howie Carr | Wednesday, September 7, 2011 |

http://www.bostonherald.com

You read it here first: Rick Perry wins tonight’s Republican debate.

It doesn’t matter how he does, or even if he shows up. The governor of Texas is going to be declared the winner because the Beautiful People on cable TV still think their idol Barack Obama might possibly be able to beat Rick Perry, polls be damned.

Mitt Romney, they’re not so sure about anymore. All those unconfirmed nasty rumors they’re planning to dust up Rick Perry with won’t stick to Mitt. Perry sounds like George Bush, so if the mainstream media have to, they’ll just make up scandals out of thin air and half the country will believe it. Remember “60 Minutes” and the Texas Air National Guard story. Think John McCain and the blonde lobbyist.

Here’s what will and won’t happen in Simi Valley tonight.

No one on the stage will dare say anything like Jimmy Hoffa did on Labor Day: “Let’s take these son of a (expletive) out!” If a Republican said something like that, it would be hate speech. If a Democrat says it, the talking heads on MSNBC shrug and dust off the old quote from Mr. Dooley: “Politics ain’t beanbag.”

Michele Bachmann will be the first candidate to mention God, Ron Paul will be the first one to mention the Federal Reserve, and Herman Cain will be the first one to mention pizza.

Mitt Romney will use the phrase “career politician” without glancing over at Perry, although the cameras will quickly cut away to Perry as soon as the phrase is uttered.

Per orders from their bosses, the NBC panelists will ask hard-edged questions about abortion and gay marriage. Rick Santorum will volunteer to answer first.

Jon Huntsman, at a gaudy 1 percent in the polls, will doff his hat to the “moderates,” absolutely none of whom will be watching this debate.

Michele Bachmann will be asked if this new hurricane, Katia, is another message from God.

Romney will say, “Only two of us up here on stage have ever created jobs.”

Rick Perry will drop a broad hint by saying, “When I was speaking to Gov. Palin today..."

Mitt Romney will say, “I want to put America back to work.”

Props to whoever figures out how to quote Ronald Reagan first, most likely Rick Perry (“I didn’t leave the Democrat Party, the Democrat Party left me!”) or Mitt Romney (“There you go again!” most likely to Rick Perry).

If you want to have a drinking game tonight, take a sip every time someone says “one-term president.” You’ll be long gone by the time MSNBC and CNN unanimously declare Rick Perry the winner.

WEEI to begin FM simulcast Monday:

Wonder if this will affect ‘RKO and Howie?

Not too much of an affect; WEEI pretty much took all of the Red Sox games last yr but for awhile Howie used to get pre-empted by the VERY exciting pre-game show. Some “overflow sports” went to RKO when EEI had something else on but with the new arrangement, when there’s a clash (ex.: Red Sox and
Celts at same time), one would be on 93.7 and one on 850.

Great news for me. 93.7 comes in GREAT where I work,
and I work nights. I can hear Sox games!

Please, judge, just throw the book at Sal DiMasi, he deserves it
By Howie Carr | Thursday, September 8, 2011 |

Judge Mark Wolf, I implore you, throw the book at that corrupt hack, Sal DiMasi.

Lock the door and throw away the key. He fought the law and the law won.

Let us not forget, this is not an ordinary thief. Sal was a speaker of the Mass. House of Representatives, the third consecutive one to be convicted of a felony. They’re all so crooked they need a corkscrew to get into their pants in the morning, and yet the first two felon solons didn’t even serve a day in jail.

The DiMasi sentencing is a make-up call, after Felon Finneran and Good Time Charlie Flaherty skated.

Judge, I love all these letters his former coat-holders are sending you, asking for mercy. His stepdaughter says this one particular $65,000 shakedown was a “miniscule part of his career.” How about you, Judge — do you really think this was the only time Sal ever put the arm on anybody?

He used to have a summer home in Marstons Mills. Did Sal get rich with his law practice, representing Mafiosi in their two-bit divorces and appearing for bookies in the district courts?

Other sycophants make the argument that he should get a base-on-balls because of “his support for same-sex rights” — a euphemism for so-called gay marriage. Funny how he came around on that one just about the time a lot of gays started moving into his district.

Judge Wolf, you’ve got two black pols from Boston doing Club Fed time for stealing a lot less than Sal did. Let’s put aside ex-Sen. Dianne Wilkerson, the happy jailbird who won’t be released until March 29, 2014. Consider ex-Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner. I really believe he still thinks he didn’t take that $1,000 as a bribe. A “preacher’s handshake,” he called it. Remember?

But the most important fact is, Chuck’s doing three years for pocketing a grand he didn’t even ask for. He’s in Hazelton, W.Va., until Nov. 2, 2013. And these hacks writing you want you to give Sal DiMasi a free ride for, I repeat, a $65,000 extortion scheme he masterminded.

Then there’s his lovely trophy wife, Debbie, who says she and her kids are just trying to “navigate our way through tremendous pain and sorrow, living anything but the lifestyle we’ve been accused of.”

Cry me a river. Wasn’t Sal planning to play a round of golf in West Palm with Donald Trump when the unpleasantness began? As for your pain and sorrow, Debbie, as Henry David Thoreau said, most men lead lives of quiet desperation.

Especially crooked House speakers. And now it’s time one of them actually went to the can. Judge Wolf, do the right thing. Twelve years.

I wonder if they’ll move ‘RKO to one of the other FM stations?

For now I doubt it but who knows. For now this is what they have:
WRKO AM 680 talk
WEEI AM 850 and (as of Mon) WEEI-FM 93.7 Sports
WKAF FM 97.7 Simulcasts WAAF
WAAF FM 107.3 Rock

--From what I've heard WAAF does well. WEEI is one of the top ad billing stations in town and they want this to get even better with putting it on FM. There are HD radios you can buy ($40-50 portable, Best Buy) which have the FM dial and there are "extra stations" on certain frequencies-- Irish, AM talk (Talk 1200 is on WXKS-FM 107.9's HD-2, WBZ is on WBZ-FM 98.5's HD-3), smooth jazz, 70s, etc.)

For now the HD 2 of WMKK (now) 93.7 has "Funkytown" R&B/disco etc. WKAF and WAAF have been putting WEEI on their HD2s, and WAAF supposedly has WRKO on their HD3. Since WRKO has trouble to the west, this makes sense. Now that WEEI will be on 93.7, however, I wonder if maybe they will put WRKO on the HD2 signals of 97.7 (south of town) and 107.3 (west of town). But again that's just with HD radio (there are also component HD radios, HD in cars, etc)

I have this HD radio:

If you were to tune to 93.7 (and live fairly nearby) you would get the main signal (currently "Mike" but soon to be WEEI) on the HD-1 and it would give you the option of hearing "Funkytown" on the HD-2; displays song titles, etc. If you put it on WXKS-FM you have the option of hearing Talk 1200 on their HD2. But as I like to joke, this is great news for the dozens of people who have an HD radio...
