White House, NY lawmaker back NYPD after report undercover police eavesdropped on Muslims

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama's counterterrorism adviser and the Republican chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee are offering support for the New York Police Department after an Associated Press investigation revealed a secret police unit that monitored daily life inside Muslim communities.

Muslim civil liberties groups and a Brooklyn congresswoman have called on the Justice Department to investigate the NYPD for its Demographics Unit, which maintained a list of 28 countries that, along with "American Black Muslim," were considered "ancestries of interest." Nearly all were Muslim countries.

Undercover police officers known as "rakers" would then eavesdrop inside Muslim businesses and write daily reports as they kept an eye on mosques, religious schools and social clubs.

The White House had no comment on whether the Demographics Unit was at odds with its recent policy paper, which said authorities should build trusting relationships with Muslim communities and urged authorities not to single out or stigmatize particular ethnic or religious communities.

In an interview Wednesday, Obama's counterterrorism adviser, John Brennan, said he has been impressed with the "heroic job" the police department and its intelligence division have done to keep New Yorkers safe.

Very strange. Who got Brennan's mind right? From March -

Brennan: Singling out groups 'un-American'

White House counter-terrorism adviser John Brennan signaled his strong differences with Rep. Peter King's high-profile hearings on Muslim radicalization at an event in New York City today.

Brennan followed Rep. Bennie Thompson, the senior Democrat on King's committee, who sharply criticized the hearings.

The White House official thanked Thompson for pointing out "how un-American it is to single out groups because of their ethnic background, religious affiliation, or political association."

Brennan didn't respond to a question about whether he was referring specifically to King's hearings, which the White House has not criticized.

Live it and love it, muzzies.

We simply don’t trust you, your religion, or your “prophet”.

For good reason.

White muslims or black cops? There's nothing this regime does that doesn't smack of racial hatred.

Or the Muslims eavesdropped upon were not hostile to the US and Barry was dropping a dime on them....

Isn’t it great that we have the Associated Press reporting on the undercover police.

Now if only they would put that kind of effort into reporting on Obama’s background.

Awww, what a shame. The Mozlems harbored, assisted, abetted, 19 freaks who murdered 3,000 Americans and now they can’t be trusted and are being watched like a den of rattlesnakes, now and forever.

Suck it UP, fools, you will NEVER be trusted in this country again.

and what happens why they spy on you? there was no probable cause. the cia is prohibited from doing this. so they send one of their employees to nypd to do it for them? this is like the gunwalker case as its illegal.. replace muslims with jews or republicans... would that still be ok?

Political correct nonsense.

The threat does emanate from certain demographics based on region of origin, religion, travel patterns, sex and age; but in America using these variables to maximize the impact/efficiency of every dollar spent on security (limited resources) attacks the core of this egalitarianism and celebrating/strength through diversity garbage that wants to tell everyone we're all equal, even though there are obvious differences between us all.

Somewhere along the way, our society adopted the belief that equality means egalitarianism in outcome, not fairness where the rules are applied equally but differences are allowed. If say this were the Cold War and the German RAF were still active, should we look for a suspect that is African American and doesn't travel to Europe? How many African American RAF terrorists were there? This is common sense, which seems to not be too common in America anymore.

I didn’t forget that the Mozlems already came for 3,000 innocent New Yorkers and blew them to smithereens already.

Had I and my Mozlem Brotherhood through local mosque fund-raising and harboring and abetting terrorists, consciously and deliberately committed an act of war against Americans, I would EXPECT local law enforcement to be watching me and mine like a den of rattlesnakes.

Personally, I think that any respectable chief of police outside of New York City, who discovered that the NYPD were involved in his town, without his permission, even under the auspices of the CIA, would immediately order their arrest, on “conspiracy” charges, and summon every journalist, reporter and blogger to be in on the bust, with bonus points for taking lots of pictures of both the operation and everyone involved in it.

Then to suggest to the reporters, etc., that it would be wise for them to make lots of backup copies, and disseminate them far and wide, before they publish. ASAP.

And *then* let the NYPD and the CIA try to bluff and b.s. their way out of it.
