His priority is running for President. He is focused on that and might not even know about this fire. His future is President not governor.

If he F's up the fire response, or is perceived as insensitive or out of touch, the press will crucify him and end his campaign.

(Look for the Press to compare the fires to Bush & Katrina, for instance.)

Braggadocio works fine in politicians unless you are seen as cruel or indifferent to those who depend on you.

Compare and contrast to Obama who didn’t visit the East coast until today. He went to Camp David before he toured the damage from Irene.

Your Katrina-Tx Fire-Media is probably very well on target.

But truthfully, unless Perry has a super duper magic rain dance in his repitoir, he can’t fix it.

Dewhurst has the power to activate the state response if necessary. The Feds ain’t in the mix, imho.

But you are right...perception is reality. (much like Katrina)
