The scary thing is that Jessica Mitford worked for the US Government in Washington DC. I’ve forgotten where I read it, but she either worked for the Pentagon, or the State Department while her husband at the time joined the Canadian Air Force. Her husband never returned from a bombing raid and was declared dead. So, she married Truehaft and moved to California. But, she was already an avowed Communist before she went to work for the US Govt. during WW II.

Ok...she changed men and then adopted the personae that they wanted for her. It doesn’t really matter. She is or was a person without foundation and without principles. She forgot that there is different between acting a part and living a life. Hopefully, she had a genuine change of heart in her latest incarnation as a “born-again” Christian.
She was truly a visually stunning and physically attractive young woman, but it is a hard thing to forget all the damage that she and all the other rudderless libertines of the 1960’s did to this country.
I’m glad I got to read her whole chronicled story. The last paragraph says, “In fact, Hanoi Jane was soon to undergo her third radical makeover — as a trophy wife. Yet again, she would subjugate herself to a man, but this time he was a Right-wing billionaire who would lavish on her every luxury she’d once rejected.” Is that man supposed to be Ted Turner? He’s hardly right-wing!

Good Lord, what an experience! Wow... yes, it does confirm what I’ve always thought about liberals: most of them have some sort of personality disorder and are fascinated with physical sensations, usually of the sex-n-drugs variety. It’s like they are always hungry, and angry about it.
I am increasingly convinced that actors are all adorable as long as someone else dresses them, grooms, them, picks them up and drops them off on-time, and tells them exactly what to say and how to say it. Let them out loose on their own, however... no wonder producers call them "Meat With Eyes."

Having been an actor at one time, I came to the understanding that an actor is asked to be, in effect, a multiple schizophrenic, hopping from one false identity to another, with his success or failure depending on how well he can do just that.How can anyone ever be sure of his own identity, or develop a strong one, if his “job” is to pretend he doesn’t exist as an individual , except as a vehicle for some other identity or persona someone else has written for him? , really resented that he had to appear in potboilers occasionally to finance his other ambitions, which were usually quixotic and simplistic, like his committment to Native American causes.Everybody’s familiar with the details of how his personal life descended into a sorry heap of tragedy, with multiple divorces, wayward children who died young, etc.
Yet there are a number of Hollywood actors who because of strength of character and innate goodness and normality (which always shone through in every character they played) managed to stay above all the mess their Industry makes possible.
Chief among them, and a perennial example of the virtues of
being normal, and holding on to being normal, is the best of them all, Jimmy Stewart.
Don’t forget Lady Diana, unrepentant Hitler-admiring wife of Sir Oswald Mosley, leader of the British Union of Fascists (a/k/a Sir Roderick Spode, leader of the Black Shorts and nemesis of Bertie Wooster).
