Sure, he makes $300,000 a year on the backs of his working-class constituents, but he knows conservatives are sons of bitches so his “authenticity” is secure.

My father was a founding member of an IBEW local. In the early days he was pro union because it made sense to him economically. Also the union offered training programs and other benefits. But over time he saw the Union get completely corrupted and taken over by thugs from the North East and Industrial States. He started to realize that you could put your safety and even the safety of your family members in jeopardy simply by speaking your mind at union meetings. He realized that the local had been taken over by guys who were essentially thugs. Where else can a guy with no education, no real training or no real talent(other than busting heads) make $300,000/year? He became in his last 25 years the most anti-union guy you would ever want to meet.

I was AFL-CIO myself.

I was a “problem” member.

I remember in the early 1930s how my mother would come home from her piecework job which gave her about $4 per week and be crying about how the new union movement kept badgering her to not work and instead picket the factory. I learned early on that there was a mix of good and bad about unions. Most of the bad was about the thugs forcing the sheep to have employers set up ‘rights’. It was not hard to see who the actual leeches were, the union bosses who always had enough to eat. I ddn’t take to being bossed by some loudmouth empty character union thug and to this day have avoided getting hitched to a union to make my living except for one time when my uncle got the union to waive my dues for a summer job becuse I needed money for college tuition.
