BASTROP, Texas (AP) — A roaring wildfire raced through rain-starved farm and ranchland in Central Texas on Monday, destroying nearly 500 homes during a rapid advance that was fanned in part by howling winds from the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee.

Thank you. We hope their home is spared as well. The main concern are their lives and safety. Everything else is secondary to that.

The comments are idiot but the evil that comes through is so raw it is disturbing. Since many posters refer to capital punishment in Texas they must be liberal nazis. Many may be blacks who indeed hate middle class whites and Texas in particular. Hate mongers like BO’spreacher have sown the dragon's teeth for many years.

Thanks... The news just reported the winds are down to 4mph.... Thats a lot better than the 20mph gusts caused by tropical storm Lee.

Idiots. If the fire touches their beloved Austin, what would they say then?

Stay safe folks. :(

Prayers.

Prayers for your family members. I have a good friend whose home is right in the Bastrop fire area, and while they are safely evacuated and have a place to stay, it is heartbreaking to see what’s happening and be powerless to do anything - or even know if you’ll have a house left.

I’ve read many expressions of good will and offers to help on this FB page, may the Lord look over all those who are affected and in harms way dealing with this tragedy.

My grandson said A&M had a good site - with their fire school.

They have opened up Maude Cobb in Longview for evacuees - Upshur has a big one. One of my students has lost her home.

I can’t get much detail from that map, but this one at Wunderground shows fire size and location as detected by satellite, and thus is semi-realtime:

Zoom in to see detail, make sure “Fire” is turned on, and unclick “Smoke” for easier viewing.

Thanks for the prayers - they are definitely needed and appreciated.

We've traveled to Texas and seen San Antonio (the Alamo and RiverWalk), Bastrop and Galveston (the Aquarium). We wanted to see so much more, but time was limited and we wanted to spend time with family in that area. We drove by the park that is now 2/3 consumed by fire.

Reading posts on other websites, people have been extraordinary in helping others with evacuations and showing concern for pets, livestock and horses. God bless America.

I'm not in one of the threatened areas but I know what it's like to basically "ignored" by the MSM because it's Texas.

10 years ago: Tropical Storm Allison

[snip] The storm dropped heavy rainfall along its path, peaking at over 40 inches [in about 24 hours] in Texas. The worst flooding occurred in Houston, where most of Allison's damage occurred: 30,000 became homeless after the storm flooded over 70,000 houses and destroyed 2,744 homes. Downtown Houston was inundated with flooding, causing severe damage to hospitals and businesses. Twenty-three people died in Texas. Along its entire path, Allison caused $5.5 billion ($6.7 billion 2008 USD) in damage and 41 deaths. Aside from Texas, the places worst hit were Louisiana and southeastern Pennsylvania.

Following the storm, President George W. Bush designated 75 counties along Allison's path as disaster areas (the first time he had to do so), which enabled the citizens affected to apply for aid. Allison is the only tropical storm to have its name retired without ever having reached hurricane strength. [snip]

But Texans pulled together and they will come out of this too.
