We have friends in Blanco. Can you tell me what the situation there is like? Haven't been able to contact our friends. They're the breeders we bought our Newfoundland Dogs from. They have like NINE of the giants living in the small home with them just as pets not as potential sales! LOL. But I worry about them and the pups now.

Lazamataz, I’m not sure if you got in touch with basil, but when I saw your post, I just checked for any posts basil may have made, and she seems to have recently been on FR. I saw she posted here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2774407/posts about 2:45 this afternoon (Tuesday). See post #7 of the thread.

OMG, seriously?
Unbelievable!
Do they have any idea who yet?

Most of the smaller fires are being controlled, but the Bastrop fire is still going strong. The bad thing is that the water supply is running low.
There are also two new fires near Austin that were reported just after noon today. The wind is much calmer today.

I can’t tell you about Blanco. You may want to look at the Texas Forest Service maps.
However, the evacuations have been very proactive and there are many organizations that are offering safe shelter for horses, livestock and pets.
Thus far, there has been no loss of human life in Central Texas.

It’s just heartbreaking to see all the devastation. I pray to God that no more lives are lost and that these fires are controlled soon. ......and for RAIN, for God’s sake! Please!

Pretty much ever possibility out there.
I spoke with the deputy Emergency Management Coordinator in our county the other day. He said it is so dry in our county here in East Texas that rubbing two toothpicks together could start a fire. He was exaggerating of course, but his point was well taken. With it as dry as it is, the slightest spark can start a huge fire.

(God willing, America will survive this Obamination.)
The Texas Forest Service said it has responded to 181 fires that have burned more than 118,400 acres over the last week.
The fires have killed two people and, according to the forest service, destroyed more than 700 homes since Sunday. More than 1,000 homes have burned in the state since fire season began in November, Gov. Rick Perry’s office said.

No news is good news.
I don’t see anything on Crawford.
The link at the source keeps updating with information.

My folks (pamlet on here) live south of Blanco, and I was just over that way yesterday. There were no fires in that area, though it is just as dry as the rest of the state. There were a few fires about 30 miles to the north of Blanco, but Bastrop is on the other side of Austin, so that fire shouldn't affect your friends. The only other fires nearby was one down at the northern edge of San Antonio (20-30 miles away) and then there was one east of Wimberley (15 miles to the east of Blanco), but it was minor in comparison to the larger fires.

I’m fine, Laz—there are no fires around me, but my heart is broken over all the fires. I was born in Smithville, and now the threat of the fires spreading there are very discouraging.
My uncle is in a nursing home in Smithville, and I haven’t been able to contact him. I can’t drive over there because all the roads are closed.
These are very anxious times for us in the area.

IF not, 2012 is going to be a lot worse.
More like, "uninhabitable". Rain is the only way water gets into TX. We do have lots of well watered lawns all around.
