Here's a scary thought. What if Israel is afraid that Obama will be reelected?

Are you saying that would be their excuse to launch a war, or to engage in a "grassy knoll" incident with the Mossad?

Sorry I missed this earlier. I'm not suggesting that Israel would do anything of the sort, but what I am suggesting is that if Israel thinks it's going to be standing alone for another 4+ years, they may not deescalate the situation, preferring to get it over with now while their enemies are still not completely aligned against them.

In short, I've always had the impression before that the support of the United States kept Israel from really cleaning some clocks in the Middle East due to the fact that the US was always there with even greater firepower to keep the peace, so Israel tried to absorb as many attacks as it could without hitting back. Now that the support is gone, they may feel constrained in what they can and cannot absorb, understanding as they do that weakness only invites further attacks.
