Coulter: Palin's fans are a liability, she has become 'the Obama of the tea party'
The Daily Caller ^ | September 6, 2011 | Jeff Poor

It’s been three years since former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made her splash onto the national stage as Sen. John McCain’s running mate in the 2008 presidential election. And since then she has acquired a very loyal following. But is that helping or hurting her?

On Tuesday’s “The O’Reilly Factor,” conservative columnist and author of “Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America,” Ann Coulter expressed her concern over the Palin phenomenon. She was asked by substitute host Laura Ingraham if Palin can maintain her status as a tea party favorite by stringing people along about her potential 2012 candidacy.

“Maybe not,” Coulter said. “Newt Gingrich carried it on for 15 years and I kind of think that might be what we’re getting here, largely because of the polls. I mean, you just showed the Fox News poll, Gallup took a poll, I don’t know – five, six months ago, showing that not quite as high as 74 percent, but 65 percent said they would never definitely, positively, ever vote for Sarah Palin… I might add, that oh, it’s the media’s fault and they attacked her and saw her as a threat, all of which I believe is true.”

Coulter pointed out that conservatives are reluctant to criticize Palin for fear of a backlash and spoke about her own experiences.

“Most Americans don’t want Sarah Palin for president,” Coulter continued. “But she’s become sort of the Obama of the tea party. She’s just the one to a certain segment of right-wingers and the tiniest criticism of her, I think many of your viewers may not know this – no conservative on TV will criticize Palin because they don’t want to deal with the hate mail. You say her voice is a few octaves too high or perhaps Michele Bachman’s speaking voice is more modulated and you will be inundated with enraged emails.”

But Coulter said that the loyal following Palin has could be a liability in the long run.

“No, I agree and I think she’s terrific at what she does, but I tend to agree with you,” Coulter said. “I got sick of it with Newt Gingrich – too, fish or cut bait because you are ginning up this group of Americans who will not even consider anyone else. You know, we used to all love Sarah Palin – conservatives like me for her enemies. I’m starting to dislike her because of her fans… I think she’s bright, but her good points do not seem to be in the direction of running for president. I sort of wish just like Newt Gingrich, just run so we can get this over with.”

UNLIKE YOU... we read and listen to her speeches and writings and she is the only one that has real plans... real solutions and as it was with the hoffa death threats... she was the first to hit back harder than hoffa hit... but she did it without any threats. Those that actually pay attention to the substance of all of these candidates can see the glaring difference. We have the real deal... your team has to rationalize and “explain” Perry's governance and twist reality into what you want him to be. We are not buying it... and nothing that you people say or do will change our minds... if Palin runs... then we will be there for her in every way needed... if she doesn't... all of your side's attacks and slandering will certainly play into where we go and who we vote for. Keep it up and you will see what I say come to fruition.

Polls favor whoever paid for them. Questions can be asked in such a manner to elicit a specific response.

Public polls are meant to influence and are very different than internal polling. And FReepers know that.

The irony is, Ann is employing the SAME tactics liberals used in 2008. Guess that makes her ‘Demonic’ too.

The elite know they need the grassroots and TP in 2012. Going after Palin supports, and indirectly the TP, is NOT smart, Ann.

Just the palinites keeping it classy and showing their utter ignorance of irony while proving her point.

If Coulter wanted to keep it classy, she wouldn't have compared Palin to Obama in the first place.

Coulter is the last person on the right to lecture ANYONE about verbal bomb-throwing. It's how she positions herself in the pundit market, quite frankly, and she has said some over-the-top doozies in her career. Some of which have damaged conservatism, quite frankly.

So she is the person with the least standing in the right-wing world to lecture on this topic.

Are you really contending that this is a biased question?:

If the 2012 Republican presidential primary or caucus in your state were being held today, and the candidates were (Michele Bachmann), (Herman Cain), (Newt Gingrich), (Jon Huntsman), (Sarah Palin), (Ron Paul), (Rick Perry), (Mitt Romney), (Rick Santorum). For whom would you vote? Which candidate would you lean toward?

Are you contending that all 8 polls you mentioned asked the same question?

You also know that the poll iternals are important. WHO they ask is just as important as WHAT they ask.

Tell me, were you one of the ones that cheered when Dubya said he wouldn't govern using polls? The SAME kind of polls you are now touting as "honest"?

Yeah, comparing Palin supporters to Obamas will Not garner a ‘classy’ response. In fact, it should be met with sharp defiance.

Personally, you compare me to any of the uninformed, ignorant, wanna hand out Obama supporters and coming at you with both barrels.

Reap what you sow, Ann.

And there’s no doubt in my mind Ann saying this because of the lack of support her Romney RINO is getting from the TP, esp. after this weekend where Palin was a bigger draw than her boyfriend, Mitt.

Spot on! We should step back and look at the big picture. Our goal is to bring our nation out of the clutches of leftist socialism. We will fail in that objective if we can’t stop attacking each other and fail to unite.

You can click on each poll and see which question was asked. Please show evidence of a biased question.

I already said polls can be wrong, but these elaborate conspiracy theories are really lame.

Are you going to blame the polling if they turn out to be accurate? They were last time around.

Come on Ann. We're full up with snipers from the circular firing squad. We need solid ground pounders to help separate Obama and his minions from the Whitehouse and Senate in 2012.

Yes, the poster from the red light district of Amsterdam? It was nice of him to add that little bit of atmosphere in his tagline, wasn’t it? He may have been, not just zotted, but nuked.
