Coulter: Palin's fans are a liability, she has become 'the Obama of the tea party'
The Daily Caller ^ | September 6, 2011 | Jeff Poor

It’s been three years since former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made her splash onto the national stage as Sen. John McCain’s running mate in the 2008 presidential election. And since then she has acquired a very loyal following. But is that helping or hurting her?

On Tuesday’s “The O’Reilly Factor,” conservative columnist and author of “Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America,” Ann Coulter expressed her concern over the Palin phenomenon. She was asked by substitute host Laura Ingraham if Palin can maintain her status as a tea party favorite by stringing people along about her potential 2012 candidacy.

“Maybe not,” Coulter said. “Newt Gingrich carried it on for 15 years and I kind of think that might be what we’re getting here, largely because of the polls. I mean, you just showed the Fox News poll, Gallup took a poll, I don’t know – five, six months ago, showing that not quite as high as 74 percent, but 65 percent said they would never definitely, positively, ever vote for Sarah Palin… I might add, that oh, it’s the media’s fault and they attacked her and saw her as a threat, all of which I believe is true.”

Coulter pointed out that conservatives are reluctant to criticize Palin for fear of a backlash and spoke about her own experiences.

“Most Americans don’t want Sarah Palin for president,” Coulter continued. “But she’s become sort of the Obama of the tea party. She’s just the one to a certain segment of right-wingers and the tiniest criticism of her, I think many of your viewers may not know this – no conservative on TV will criticize Palin because they don’t want to deal with the hate mail. You say her voice is a few octaves too high or perhaps Michele Bachman’s speaking voice is more modulated and you will be inundated with enraged emails.”

But Coulter said that the loyal following Palin has could be a liability in the long run.

“No, I agree and I think she’s terrific at what she does, but I tend to agree with you,” Coulter said. “I got sick of it with Newt Gingrich – too, fish or cut bait because you are ginning up this group of Americans who will not even consider anyone else. You know, we used to all love Sarah Palin – conservatives like me for her enemies. I’m starting to dislike her because of her fans… I think she’s bright, but her good points do not seem to be in the direction of running for president. I sort of wish just like Newt Gingrich, just run so we can get this over with.”

I stopped listening to Coulter when she became David Duke in a dress.

And from what I understood she has been speaking at various gay conferences.

Something tells me that Sarah will not be pandering to gay groups or La Raza which seems to be Rick Perry's favorite group. Remember La Raza means "THE Race", not "A race" in my opinion they are a brown supremacy group.

I think you guys know how strongly I feel about illegal aliens. They have destroyed many parts of Chicago and the inner suburbs. Rick Perry seems to be best buds with the illegal agitators.

I don't know how the Perrybots can explain that away. But I have zero respect for anyone speaking at La Raza. That would be like Sarah speaking at a KKK meeting!!!

Also the Viking Kitties have started to arrive and it seems the ZOTS are coming so I won't need anti depressants this week. I'll just watch you guys and JR go on a rampage against the Sarah hater trolls :)

I am so tired of this jealous stuff. does at mean I can go around saying that men here don’t support Romney or Perry because they are jealous of their hair? So childish.

Palin hasn’t declared and she’s being compared to declared candidates. Apples and oranges. But I DO enjoy that she draws larger crowds than the declared. LOLOL!!!

Some days it seems it's just matter of time before Ann Coulter announces she is coming out of the closet.

We could mix metaphors and talk about skeletons in the closet coming out. That'd be Ann Coulter.

2,000 people for the Iowa speech last weekend. Maybe she’s losing her touch.

Quite honestly there have been some very catty posts. Men tend to not be so catty. I have seen several women posters accuse Palin of using sex appeal to win elections. It’s stupid but they do it. The posts usually revolve around her lip gloss and high heeled boots. * rolling eyes*

Polls were right: FR was, definitively, wrong.

FR is not a great bellwether for things politic.

“I’m starting to dislike her because of her fans...”

Exactly. Palin HAS fans...and Ann Coulter is finding it harder to fill seats and sell books, her blonde shocktress performances have gone the way of Gallagher’s watermelon act...everybody’s seen it.

Jan is having a fit because everything is “Marcia Marcia Marcia!”

LOL! Good post.

When FReepers start sounding like the MSM and using their debunked talking points the problem is THEM and not Palin supporters.

I'm an impartial observer who is simply calling it as I see it.

Ann does make a good point here though, anyone who looks at it objectively knows she’s right. I like Sarah, but some have lifted her up to almost the Messiah level.

Liberals attack Rush because they think he’s programming us.

Rush is simply saying what we believe.

Except that Rush is simply believing in Rick Perry. Maybe he thinks he'll get another night at the White House under a slick former-Texas governor as president. What a disappointment.

You might want to check the numbers that candidates are getting. And I read a few articles that stated 3,000. We all know how honest the number counters are. We’ve seen numbers inflated for the left and greatly diminished when conservative. It’s just what they do.

You are not impartial. It's a mask. And a rather lefty one at that.

“Some days it seems it’s just matter of time before Ann Coulter announces she is coming out of the closet.”

Just speculating, but the intensity and ad hominem nature of Coulter’s attacks, do lead one do lead one to believe that this goes beyond Coulter’s new found fascination with RINOs Romney and Christie.

Seriously, maybe she is gay or bi and this all started back when Palin decided to not go to the CPAC homo fest.

Perhaps this is personal with Coulter...all I know is that she has changed abruptly, not unlike Huffington years ago.
