In 2009, Arizona passed a law that eliminated health-insurance coverage for same-sex partners of public employees.
But the 9th Circuit yesterday ruled that the law violates the Constitutions Equal Protection Clause, the Arizona Republic reports.
The 9th Circuit upheld a lower court injunction that has blocked the law from taking effect.
A three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit concluded that while the state is not obligated to provide health-care benefits it cannot deny them to a specific group of employees, the Republic reports.

The only way we’re going to get our country back is by putting men and women into the legislative branch who will impeach every single judge who won’t follow the Constitution and our laws, who think they’re God and can change the meaning of words and the natural law.
So now we have a Federal Court ruling that types of behavior must be treated equally under the 14th Amendment? This is outrageous. How then can we have a progressive income tax whereas hard working people are taxed one way and lazy people are taxed another way? Does the 14th Amendment cover sexual behavior but not other behaviors? Many hard working people put off marriage in order to establish a prosperous and secure life for themselves and a future spouse and yet they are being discriminated against all of the time and forced to subsidize the lifestyle choices of other lazy people in society.
The American judiciary, especially the Ninth Circuit, invariably favors the criminal element in our society.
Does Arizona deny health care benefits to “partners” of hetero couples who live together but are not married? I bet they do. This is the more equivalent comparison.
Drop all health insurance benefits....
After all, didn’t we all read the part of the Constitution giving the Courts jurisdiction over big issues and the legislatures authority over nothing of consequence?
Get ready to live under these rulings for another 100 yrs. Not at the ballot box - only at the ammo box. Remember, you don't get to know how the election machines function.
The people can change things back practically overnight, should they choose to do so.
It says they can’t limit benefits at all, so I presume if you don’t have kids of your own, you can sign up your neighbor’s kids for your health care plan.
I thought this was about equal rights not special rights. Odd that.
It’s always about special rights disguised as equal rights. That’s how they trick the masses into going along with it.
It’s all about getting the rest of us to pity them as some horribly oppressed group, and therefore feel sympathetic. However, once you get into some deep details, a great deal of the oppression and the bigotry is incredibly exaggerated, and it’s more begging for pity at the expense of others.
