New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez has acknowledged her paternal grandparents came to the U.S. illegally, amid national attention and protests over her ongoing efforts to bar illegal immigrants from getting driver's licenses.
"I know they arrived without documents, especially my father's father," the Republican said Wednesday in an interview in Spanish with KLUZ-TV, the Albuquerque Univision affiliate.

Also, she says her grandfather abandoned the family when her father was young and not much is known about him.
This is a slime story to make it appear she is abandoning her heritage and people in her effort to prevent illegal aliens from receiving NM driver's licenses.

I don’t know much about the woman but I do know that I’m not real concerned about 90 years ago. Sounds like she’s trying to do the right thing in this case.
Obviously trying to undermine support for her among conservatives. It won’t work. As long as she does the right thing, she can’t be held responsible for the sins of her grandparents.
In fact, what’s the problem, if these jerks support illegal immigration? Typical liberal hypocrisy.

Susana Martinez is a great woman and a true conservative.
It is scum like: " advocates and some religious leaders cited Martinez's family history as a reason the governor should drop her effort to repeal the driver's license law."
And those who think in terms like: "have you forgotten your heritage?"
Who are among today's greatest threats to the nation ... after the current pretender to the White House.
I happened to notice a tweet to Michelle Malkin yesterday that said something like. “Bitch, you’re asian, how dare you oppose amnesty”.
I was born in El Paso, and grew up very close to the border - used to cross into Mexico frequently with my parents - to visit places to eat, and buy a few toys with my few pennies. Never was a problem, and any kind of crime was very rare back in those days.
Later grew up in 'Hot Springs' - now 'T or C' - still have family there.
I do know this too - about NM. The Democrats there used to be far more conservative than were the Republicans. That changed over time, but there are still a lot of very conservative Democrats there.

Mostly the people in this area just went about their own lives without knowing that some group or other was claiming them. It is no surprise if some people may have been used to entering or exiting without notify the proper authorities.
You’ve got that right, I wouldn’t want her shooting at me. We need more people(women and men) like her in politics. Why is it that it seems like only the women Republicans are real conservatives and have all the balls, while most of the men are frickin’s wimps(policians I mean, not FReepers!)
And my father is a lunatic, Haliburton started the Gulf War, I Love Obama Democrat. My step-great-grandfather was a Texas Democrat and in the Klan. Thank God we are individuals in this country and not burdened by the choices of our ancestors like in other countries.
Susana Martinez was born July 14, 1959. That makes her an American citizen.
So much for Census information being kept confidential. Things like this, and the fact the government used Census info to roundup Japanese Americans, are why I only tell them how many are living in my home.

No, what was different was our Supreme Court had not ruled to bankrupt the country by forcing Americans to pay the medical and educational costs for illegals.
Funny thing is noone seemed to be concerned with Bill Richardson’s heritage...old timers around here swear he was born in Mexico where he still has family- yet his official bio has him born in U.S..
Surely party affiliation has nothing to do with the concern- or lack of.
You are right she has not hidden her past as so many have. Maybe that’s why it is news?
